There's a few players in this squad who I have no idea why they are there. Cook looks completely gone, Ben Stokes is currently an all rounder who cannot bat or bowl, while Chris Jordan seems incapable of bowling anything except bouncers. Great to see they've finally let James Taylor play, but it seems incredibly difficult to be dropped from the england squad.

Correct, Cook had anything about him he'd resign as a one day player and captain! I thought cook was better than this he knows he ain't a one day player what a selfish person..

No matter how pathetic England are, Kumar Sangakkara is a true great of the game. One of the most amazing stats about him is that his Test average is an astonishing 59, but since he gave up keeping 80 odd Tests ago, it's a scarcely credible 70. 70!! He's actually seriously under rated.

His record is pretty much second only to Bradman. I was lucky enough to be at Lords to see his century earlier this year. It was a privilege.

Agreed, Sri Lanka are seriously fucked when he, Dilshan and Jayawardene retire, as the three of them have carried that batting lineup for a long time now. Matthews looks like he could step up, but beyond him it's pretty slim pickings. Sangakkara has been ridiculously good in all forms, especially considering the strain of keeping, captain and the burden of carrying the team for so long. Such an elegant player, there are some series when he's inform where you just can't envisage getting him out.

I watched him in Australia once where he basically played them on his own. Add in to that his intelligence and charisma, and I come dangerously close to hero worship.

If you've not seen his Spirit of Cricket lecture, do yourself a favour and set an hour aside. It was astonishing.

Cook sacked as 1 day captain!

Where did you hear that?

If true it is the right course of action albeit belatedly.
On talkshite now, Gough has confirmed it, and they are interviewing a cricket journo now who says yes it's true
