Was thinking last year that County grounds could do more to attract people ‘WFH’, a trend that is likely to continue. They have tended to invest more in terms of catering for the corporate guests, but if they were more creative with things like ticketing/catering/internet/charging stations, they could attract a different kind of audience.

The fixture list for next season has still not been announced, so I suspect it’s being re-written in light of current events.
I have been on Lancashire League games with 10 people on, it is all levels of traditional cricket, no one is interested anymore.

Fixtures are to be announced in Jan after they decide to lets Yorkshire keep all their international matches. They were due to play Lanky in Scarborough last year, but covid brought it back to Leeds the week before. Better venue than wasteland north of Leyland where Lanky are planning their second ground.

We all new we were going to get beat the predictions were 5-0 I went for 4-1 so not a shock we 3 down think it’s more to do with the performances and if you look at it with no practice in a bubble it was always going to be tough. Where as the Aussies in there summer there players have had plenty of preparation plus they have far better Bowlers than us.
True, but England were in exactly the same position on December 18th 2017, when they were similarly three down after three Tests. They can blame lack of preparation and COVID now to an extent, but the lack of preparation can be dated much further back and responsibility should fall on more shoulders.

There needs to be a radical rethink of how County cricket is funded and operates In England. It cannot survive serving that traditionalist model, but that doesn’t mean everything has to be T20 and ODI.

The world test championship is, not some two horse race featuring average teams. Only Michael Vaughan types who never won anything claim it as a trophy.

Australia were humiliated by India reserves earlier this time last year, and India were runners up in the championship. Cashes is a money spinner, and should not have been played this year, it may as well be England v Scotland at football and ignoring the world cup.

They didn't get 2 weeks to prepare never mind 2 years, that was half the problem.

forget 2 years they have had from 2017 to now to build a team ? the ashes is the biggest thing for english and australia cricket full stop. the cricket test championship is pointless because of the time it takes and the truth is its just the same as the ranking system

the problem with the english setup is central contracts and having always going to pick the players on the list.
scrap the central contracts and bring back the system that allows player to be pick on form and not because they have to play because they are getting paid

anderson broad are finished for me and time for change and a full time spinner and a balance team
the best wicket keeper must also play and not somebody who can score runs and keep the gloves

The players out there is all we have we have two tests left so think that team is a bit of a switch up and Crawley needs a bit of pressure of him and burns he ain’t great but he is the best we have at opening up there also think that’s our best bowlers.
Burns is mediocre. At least the likes of Crawley, Pope and Lawrence have potential to be good test batsmen.

We shouldn’t be content with a 30+ year old averaging around 30 after such a long time in the side.

Our selection process is very worrying. We had Roy and Denly in our top 3 in the last Ashes at home. How was that looking ahead to the future?!

Silverwood needs to go ASAP, Buttler should be dropped and Root should step down as captain. I suspect only one of those might happen though.

Jimmy Anderson has played a vast amount of test cricket yet cannot do the basics with a bat in his hand,, why hasn't he got at least a grasp of defence of his wicket with all the batting coaches England have had over the years. It's disgraceful how the batsmen don't treasure their wicket with any pride

Most points I fully agree with, but how would England deal/cope with players being lured to play in the IPL or other such tournaments if not contracted?

spot on county cricket is the reason but also central contracts

the 4 day game needs a revamp and free to air tv need to get involved and promote the game
make it free to get in and get schools involved. maybe day and night county cricket with a point system for every day and 90 overs maximum per innings. also bonus points from runs and wickets like 400 runs or 10 wickets in a day

Of all the things to have a go at, this must be very near if not the bottom of the list.

Buttler was central contracted and not played in 2016 but Bairstow and Ballance at Yorks were not and picked.

The test team improved no end from introducing central contracts but they have never stopped the ECB picking players in form regardless of nationality.

For the future, we've got to go with the likes of;

Pope
Sibley/Rhodes
Lawrence
Foakes
Overton
Archer (when fit)

As for the openers, maybe give Roy a go again, we're not blessed with depth are we Vince maybe?

Thankless job at the minute.
Pope when he learns how to play spin.Overton no Rhodes could be taught captaincy by Vince.

The only good thing about how pathetic and embarrassing this shower that passes for an international test team are, is that at least their incompetence will annoy 140,000 Australians who had tickets for the last 2 days.”

Silverwood has to go.
Consider Archer...
Before Silverwood: 20 runs per wicket.
After: 40 runs per wicket. All the good stuff removed from his game.

No tickets went on sale for day 5.

Better than he thinks, yes, but arguably not better than a strike spinner, though I think we both agree that ‘who’ that is remains unknown. I’ve mentioned on here before that converting Moeen Ali from a promising batsman into a stop gap spinner, and then relying on him as a strike spinner, was a bad move, and one that probably led to the current situation. It just sends out the wrong signals to spinners in the County game, in my humble.
Adil Rashid?
