Reading some comments on cricket info, because Root's century is going to be overlooked by Brook's innings, and a question asked is which test innings in history are overshadowed
One comment was "August 14th 1948, Arthur Morris scored 196 runs and his innings is forgotten about as someone was out for a duck"

Similar story — easily the most important footballing event in May 1999 was us against the Gills at Wembley. Some other club, I'm told — I forget who — eclipsed it by winning a few trophies.

I watched until Brook got his ton and Root 50, the mad thing is without the rain we could have got close to 450 day 1 on that wicket. I honestly thought 250 would be a very good score with par about 200. Root and Brook looked in no trouble whatsoever once they had got in.

Happy to see my prediction was completely wrong, well done guys.
It's wonderful to watch him.

It's not as though he's slashing away at poor bowling, it's very controlled with a full array of shots. I like that he plays a number of defensive shots and then out of the blue off a good ball, he simply walks into it and effortlessly sends it to the boundary. Cricket is entertainment and his batting (as was Roots) certainly was.

On a wicket that looked greener than my lawn in the spring, both he and Brook settled down and put together a really commendable performance. It's a pity the rain came, because neither looked like being dismissed at any time.

I don't know how good he is or could be, but I'm looking forward to watching him in the Ashes and wonder how he would have stood up against a Lillie/Thompson onslaught from yesteryear.

I think we all predicted that tho pal, I was so surprised at how quickly the wicket flattened out.

Will be interesting to see whether we push for a win or just try and pile on as many runs as we can. A series win away in New Zealand doesn't come around often, we need to make sure we take it even if that means drawing this one

Think we bowling some time today get to 600 because weather why’s not looking that good
Meanwhile, the ladies just fell short of the South African total of 164 and now out of the T20 World Cup, while the South Africans go on to meet the Aussies in the final on Sunday.

Would you mind if I set up a new cricket thread ?
I accidentally ignored the op and do t get the Cricket thread in my off topic any more.
Just caught this in the latest post thread.
Many thanks

Disappointed Brooks got out after a few balls missed all his batting yesterday too.. stokes playing like he is going to declare

Poor old Root looks like he'd get 200 if anyone could stay with him. Lowest total ever with a 300 partnership - 431 WI vs Aus 1999. Lara & Adams get 322/431.

Might be on for a new record...

I have watched and adored Test Cricket since the early 70s, this style of play from England is on a whole new level.

I marvelled at Sir Viv at the Oval in 76 with his 291 made at a strike rate of 75 per 100. which was extraordinary at that time. Denis Amiss made 203 in the same test at a strike rate of 63.

In the 1979 one day world cup final at Lords Boycott made 57 at a strike rate of 54.

Now we are seeing Harry Brook score in tests at just short of a strike rate of 100.

It is incredible to watch and really enjoyable, but as an old test loving nerd you cant beat Chris Tavare going an hour without scoring :))

And the (brilliant) madness continues with a declaration out of nowhere with essentially less than a days play.
