I’m surprised Alistair Cook isn’t used more. He scored tons of runs only using 3 or 4 shots at a reasonable rate. This is why an old head like a boycott doing a simple coaching and talking sessions should happen more in modern-day cricket when doing tours, They listened and learned about what is needed from guys that went on tours before them.
I think it's so easy for modern-day cricketers to watch computers and look at the stats and think that's enough i am ready to face India in India Wrong
Somebody face-to-face showing you what is needed and making you do it over and over again to you get it right
It's all well and good having eyes and ears, but having the mental part of the game can not be learnt by watching videos, it's the hard yards working on your weakness for hours days weeks.
England coaching is a closed shop, they do not listen or open up and invite old heads to do some sessions.
In boycott time old pro's would be working for the press or radio and then doing bits for the new players in coaching and talking sessions for free, just a little information or something they had picked up by watching you in the crease
He knew his limitations and removed shots he couldn’t play well from his game. Surely he could coach others to be more decisive in which shots to play and when.
