Cricket Thread

The thing I can’t un hear now, and it isn’t just them, is the constant asking of the question “Will it go all the way to the boundary?” Then immediately answering, “Yes, it does.”

Plus them describing a 6 as a maximum. Get in the bin!
I think this bit belongs in the FOC thread for things that shouldn't bother us but do......... ;-)

Of course it’s not the maximum you can score off one shot anyway so fully agree with you.

What's the most that's ever been scored off one shot? Theoretically, I suppose it's unlimited, depending on overthrows.
There’s been a couple of 8s in test cricket apparently, the batsmen run four, the overthrow enabling another four. But here’s a question in that scenario, if the fielder just threw the ball over the rope wouldn’t it just be a four?

In village cricket it is apparently 17 when the ball got lost in some long grass!

There’s some stories of 93 and 256 where the ball got lodged in a tree but they’re unverified.

It is added like in the 2019 CWC when stokes got his bat on it accidentally on purpose, 2 became 6.

I guess theoretically, the ball could hit a helmet behind the keeper on the way to the boundary too to add 5 more runs.

Cheers. Apparently if a batter runs five and the ball then reaches the boundary it is counted as 5 all run. I suppose in my scenario they would have to run nine to cancel out the four (all ran) + four (boundary overthrow).

I’d love to see that happen!

I love the village cricket clips that I get sent fro time-tp-time - never fail to cheer you up.

If I can, I'll try and dig out my favourite in a bit............

If you get to see European League cricket, it’s hilarious. The best one I saw was a fielder chasing a ball that was heading to the boundary, pick it up, spin round to throw ball but slip backwards whereby the ball hit his foot in the air and he did a Dennis Tueart volley over the ropes.

That’s a classic, as is the commentary on the batsman getting the ball straight in his nuts.
