Cricket Thread

They (Aussies) will not play as badly in the next test match with their batting, Khawaja got over 200 runs in the test match on his own the rest was poor, England needs to think long and hard about the wicket-keeper and Stokes as a bowling option at Lords, Yes we will go without a spinner and play 4 main seam bowlers, so Stokes plays higher up the batting line up and maybe Brooks misses out
Not a chance you can leave Brooks out

I think Jimmy felt 40 for the first time in Cricket, he must be ready to step down for the greater of the team and hand over to somebody else, All it takes is one little injury at his age and you are fighting father time,
Possibly but he’s been injured and had one poor test on a pitch that offered him nothing . Think it’s too early to write him off and he deserves another game at least.

Aussies want to win at all cost even if it is the cost of test match cricket dying! They ok with England trying to change test match cricket like England have done from the cricket becoming a major sport!

It’s the fat sam of cricket and I’d expect them to play negative cricket the whole series to counter our attacking style! Let’s just hope we come out on top!

No because we actually win things. Seeing how happy the England players are that we lost but entertained makes me think they are more like arsenal of last season. I’m all for the positive stuff but at the end of the day in elite sports winning does also matter. Especially the ashes
Yep, great to watch but the record books, quite rightly, will just show that England lost

Could you not just put Bairstow in as an opener to get Foakes in? Surely worth dropping one of our average openers to get our best wicket keeper (who’s pretty consistent with the bat too) in.

You could, but I wouldn't. We've tried that experiment before and it hasn't worked. Duckett has an excellent average so he stays. Crawley...there's something there. He had a good first innings and those conditions were unplayable in his 2nd. He just needs to find consistency, retain that concentration and he could become a really solid opener for us. They've backed him, he's not getting dropped. I don't think Bairstow scores many more than him when opening. The balls been clubbed to bits by the time he gets in now, which has helped him play his aggressive style.

Foakes just doesn't fit in now that Brook has emerged and Pope has found form. If Stokes wasn't captain he'd probably be the one to make way!

It's not worth discussing too much. Bairstow isn't getting dropped, he'll be backed to improve. That's his first high level game in a long time, and he was bound to struggle a bit. But hopefully that's that now and he'll improve moving forwards. He's got enough credit in the bank from his performances last year.

Yes he has. Just not a huge amount due to the wickets he has been playing on. Wouldn't pick him for Lords though anyway. But a consideration if Moeen is struggling later in the series.

36 overs this season , he's my choice to be brought in also , but i feel they would be wary during the ashes, unless the wicket looked like it would favour spin , and even then I feel they may goto a more experienced spinner , most likely back to mo unfortunately

Expect Wood and possibly Woakes to come in for Anderson and Ali at Lord’s.

It’s generally a great wicket to bat on, so it would be great to win the toss again.

Based on the first test, it doesn’t seem like a 4 or 5 nil loss is on the cards. But we did squander a great opportunity to win a match we mostly dictated, and Smith & Labuschagne are bound to score runs soon.

I’d probably take another 2-2 now tbh. As much as the first test was a fantastic advert for test cricket and the sport itself, that defeat hurt like hell. I can only imagine how the players are feeling. We will have to show a lot of character to bounce back against a strong Australian side.
