No it’s not clever even when you score boundaries because the whole point of that tactic is that you’ll ship half a dozen boundaries but get a wicket.
The smart thing to do was ease off for 10 mins and Australia would have given up - which is exactly what Stokes did when he got in.
3 overs after he came in the Aussies realised he wasn’t going to take the bait and reverted to a normal field and bowling tactics.
And EVERYONE knew the Aussies couldn’t keep that tactic up for long when Lyon is injured because no fast bowler can bowl short over after over without getting knackered, at which point they’ll start making mistakes and we could have smashed them round the park for the last hour of play and not only would we have 2 or 3 more wickets in hand but have more runs on the board too.
And if they’d done that they’d be roughly 350/2 and the world would be singing the praises of Bazball, saviours of test cricket.
