Never been to Oz, but I’m an avid cricket and rugby fan and I have to say I enjoy the verbals, it adds spice to it. Can’t stand any game where opponents are all nice to each other on the pitch, whether it’s cricket, rugby or football. As long as you can take the shit if you give it, then that’s fine with me, I used to love winding up opponents when I played at uni. Never, ever back down.
It's one of the few points where Keane, as it happens, has got it spot on, and I agree with him. All this lovey dovey stuff in the tunnel pisses me off. Still less should it happen on the pitch. Did you see Mike Doyle doing that stuff? Especially with the rags and the dippers? I think not.
That said, what happened to Bairstow yesterday was poor. Looking forward to the atmosphere at Headingley. The Aussies, to be fair, feed off that — hostility is meat and drink to them, and they certainly hand it out when England play down under — so it could actually go against us.
We too have done stuff that was pretty iffy. Atherton not walking against Donald is a case in point. Yes, he didn't have to walk, according to the rules of the game. Often watch that clip on Youtube. The hatred coming from Donald is like a force field. Love it!
The first innings was utterly abject, and everybody sees that that's where the match was lost. 188 for 1? And you lose? Poor.
But I for one am thoroughly cheered up by yesterday's sessions. We can win the last three tests. I couldn't give a monkey's about “history”. History is there to be rewritten. As in doing the treble of league, F.A. Cup and Champions League in successive seasons
;-)
Looking forward to the third Test. Good that the turnaround's quick. In any case, it's a cracking series, so far, with errors and some great play from both sides.
