Cricket Thread

sky will keep running with the controversy , everything they do is look for controversy, as for the decision , if it was england fielding we would be loving it and praising bairstow for his quick and excellent thinking,

Cricket have got their "VAR" spot on, you can see everything clearly ,and more importantly you can hear everything clearly, completely transparent, the umpires aren't made to look like fools if they get a decision wrong, something i think hampers pigmol, they are scared shit of being shown to make a mistake.

Never been to Oz, but I’m an avid cricket and rugby fan and I have to say I enjoy the verbals, it adds spice to it. Can’t stand any game where opponents are all nice to each other on the pitch, whether it’s cricket, rugby or football. As long as you can take the shit if you give it, then that’s fine with me, I used to love winding up opponents when I played at uni. Never, ever back down.

It's one of the few points where Keane, as it happens, has got it spot on, and I agree with him. All this lovey dovey stuff in the tunnel pisses me off. Still less should it happen on the pitch. Did you see Mike Doyle doing that stuff? Especially with the rags and the dippers? I think not.
That said, what happened to Bairstow yesterday was poor. Looking forward to the atmosphere at Headingley. The Aussies, to be fair, feed off that — hostility is meat and drink to them, and they certainly hand it out when England play down under — so it could actually go against us.
We too have done stuff that was pretty iffy. Atherton not walking against Donald is a case in point. Yes, he didn't have to walk, according to the rules of the game. Often watch that clip on Youtube. The hatred coming from Donald is like a force field. Love it!
The first innings was utterly abject, and everybody sees that that's where the match was lost. 188 for 1? And you lose? Poor.
But I for one am thoroughly cheered up by yesterday's sessions. We can win the last three tests. I couldn't give a monkey's about “history”. History is there to be rewritten. As in doing the treble of league, F.A. Cup and Champions League in successive seasons
;-)

Looking forward to the third Test. Good that the turnaround's quick. In any case, it's a cracking series, so far, with errors and some great play from both sides.

It’s perfectly ok not to walk if you edged the ball.
The reason is because sometimes you really just don’t know if you edged it or not.
Bairstow v Labuschagne was different that is taking guard outside your crease.
Lol I take it the reason for this post is for the usuals bringing up everything they possibly can to defend the indefensible. You are of course right.
Instead of the MCC trying to be perfect hosts by ignoring this sporting afront and now undermining and actually punishing their own members, they should be supporting the outrage and suspending Carey from its premises. They have and behaved appallingly

Have some friends who took a once in a lifetime trip to follow England on an ashes tour in australia a few years ago & they were astonished at how bad the aussie crowd treated the England players and fans.
They witnessed aussie fans agressively abusing the England fans constantly and saw England fans being assaulted at every match, including the warm up & tour games.
Without exception, the local police didn’t help & literally told any England supporters to fuck off when they tried to report any incidents.
What should have been a dream trip became a total nightmare and it has permanently soured their views about aussies.
Speaking for myself, I have met many many aussies in my professional & personal life and they have all been, without question, cunts.

This is just nonsense, my partner is British and she has never felt anything remotely like this when she heads to Oz with me sometimes.

Just on a side note how pathetic has the Sky Commentary been this series?

You've got 3 Aussies in the Comms box for a start(Australian broadcast has zero Englishmen) and you have Morgan, Strauss and Pietersen(who is the absolute worst commentator I've heard in a long time) pander to the Aussies.

Botham, Gower and Willis(RIP) would of definitely pulled no punches and neither would Holding or Warne(RIP)

Sangakkara was ok as he was a neutral and I'm sure Atherton and Hussain cringe when listening to the other English commentators doing their Comms

It's a fucking shitshow

Would be very curious to have an Indian or Pakistani in that commentary box for this series.

Have to agree with this to some extent. Glenn McGrath and Ponting are just awful, so biased. Pietersen similarly is also not a good listen imo.

Atherton, Straus and Hussain are just dull and try too hard to be impartial.

Jim Maxwell on TMS is an Aussie redeeming light and a great listen. Aggers is also pretty good.

Long gone sadly are the days of Benaud, Blowers and Johnson.

Clearly the England players don’t either

The top one was a legitimate attempt at a stumping and not against the spirit of the game whatsoever. The middle one involved a huge appeal for LBW and he was stumped while out of his crease. I can't open the last tweet so can't comment on those but those first two are in no way similar to what happened yesterday. The ball was clearly live on both occasions and neither involved the umpire handing the bowler his cap back to signify the end of the over.
