Brooks at 3 apparently as well! He better use his brain then because the fast ball catches him out when it’s short! He should put that shot away

Yeah I'm really not sure about that move, it's not really his game. Bairstow or Stokes should move up.

Not really a fan of Ali coming back - adds very little bowling & bats like Livingstone. Might as well have Livingstone

Yep Ali coming back was a waste of time in effect he might if cost us the first test because of his finger was knackered

Moeen Ail coming back in shows one thing, stupidity

Rehan Ahmed had to play in the 3rd test because Moeen does not want to play test cricket and give it up,
when called on by Stokes he was useless because his fingers blistered, England have already lost the ashes and what harm would playing Rehan Ahmed do to the ashes 2023

It was Parky last year and the one test then being dropped helped his rapid decline.

10 years ago it was Simon Kerrigan at the Oval, his debut so the Aussies targeted him, dropped his career slipped away.

Surely the ECB won't ruin another spinner.

Possible but I think we both know that Root hates playing at 3. That's one of the reasons Pope has had to move up the order. Pope has only played a handful of games at 3 for Surrey and is much less comfortable there than he is at 4, which is why I sense that position is a a bit of England's Achilles' heel. Ali and Lawrence have both batted at 3, so those are possibilities. If they are making 3 changes to the team, I guess they'll want to reduce the disruption to the order.
Heard a snippet on a news bulletin (TS) that quoted Root as saying he is happy move up to 3 ..... now it appears Brook is playing there and they are going with the extra bowler. Presumably it will be confirmed tomorrow.

8-3 to the 2005 team.
Tried to do the same with England ... had to cheat.

Tried to base it on how they were/are at the time. No place for the Jimmy of 2023 sadly.

I don't think he could say anything else really, but given he's England's best player and the one on whom any chance of victory is built, he should play where he's most comfortable. Has Brook ever played at 3 for Yorkshire? I guess Bazball calls for someone who can carry the fight to the opposition, but I still think there is a place for someone who can drop anchor at 3.
