I’m sure I’ve read this week that Anderson has said he’s not retIring. Personally, I think this series has proved it’s at least one too many for him. He’s 41 tomorrow and if he doesn’t call time on his England career, the selectors should. Just my opinion, that time has caught up with him.

He said yesterday that he wasn't thinking of retiring.

Are you English?

Yep

The 2 early tests the Aussies won sorted out who was winning/retaining the Ashes, like it or not Big mistakes was made in both test by England and the Aussies took their chances and got the results,

Bazball cricket or not England made too many mistakes in them 2 tests, if you think about the Lord's test we were in front and they lost Lyons and bounced England out and throw the result away Crazy

Think he’s taken 5 wickets in the Tests he’s played this summer and never more than one wicket per innings.

A drawn series would more accurately reflect the balance between the sides. They’ve both made mistakes and been hampered by injuries, and the intensive nature of the series has seen two creaky old teams creaking to the finishing line.

Looking ahead, I see that the five-Test series against India will be played across 46 days, the same number of days as this Ashes, so England will likely need to travel with a larger squad.

Sorry I don't see it that way, From the Leeds test onwards Yes England played better but the damage was already done and England lost control of the series meaning the Aussies could play defences and hope for the weather to help and it did

Poor results from Anderson over the 4th tests, once you go it goes fast at 40, Which is pretty much what Broad was saying in I want to go out at the top and not play on and get belters because I dipped and failed

I agree with that though it’s also worth remembering that the two Australian victories were relatively narrow. I never bought into the idea that there was a gulf between the sides and still don’t.

terra
it'll piss the aussies off if bat one over then declare

Only played 4 tests though and very unlucky not to pick up 3/4 in the first innings. If he wants to carry on fair play to him. If England don’t pick him i’d expect he’ll play for Lancs.

The ECB contract has helped prolong his career, but there will come a time that they will have to decide on whether he continues to be worth it. Thereafter, it will be a question of whether his body is still capable of performing for Lancashire.

He didn't retire from IT20s or ODIs, just stopped being selected. I think he will be told he isn't being considered anymore before he "retires".

Yes, I think he'll politely be told it's time to go.
Broad's stolen any thunder from doing it now, and the comments yesterday will look a bit strange to go back on.

At a guess, he'll have the tour off, and they'll decide before the home tests.

Agreed. I think Broad has witnessed first hand what happens by playing on a little too long, and decided to go out at the top. Love Jimmy to bits, but surely he needs to call it a day before he compromises his legacy further. It's been painful watching him struggle in this series, although to be fair, his early season injury couldn't have helped.

Based on what, the fact that in this test he hasn't taken the wickets expected?

Presuming that Stokes won't declare, if only to allow Broad to come out and soak up the love in the middle for an over or two (before one of them gets bowled — may not even last as long as that).
I know he'll be out there all day later, but it's not the same being in the fielding side.

Will Moeen be able to bowl?

Murphy was generating quite substantial turn at times yesterday, so Root and Moeen (if fit) could prove to be a threat today.
