Just watching Botham and Willis reminiscing about Ashes memories. Bob would have loved watching that drama today. Though I'm not sure how much of a fan of Bazball he'd be!

The decision may need to be taken out of his hands. He's clearly past his best now; even his biggest fans can't deny that. It'd be a terrible shame if he did go to India, and got dispatched to all corners of the grounds out there.

And yes; I know. Cricket grounds don't have corners. I'm sure you get my drift.
I hope the decision is his. He might choose to retire himself in the coming days, sans fanfare, which might be more in keeping with his character.

*You forgot ‘cow corner’, the resting place for many of my deliveries, alas.

I think that praise for the Aussies is well said.

I think the series was played in good spirits mainly, The run out of Bairstow walking out of the crease should have been dealt with by the Aussies captain and let Bairstow bat, But other than that both camps have been all smiles and played in good spirits

There seemed to be a mutual respect out there this evening when the sides were walking off the pitch. And a nice touch to give Broad a guard of honour this morning. I'm sure, though, that probably didn't go down all that well back home, given Broad's refusal to walk a few years back!

Prior to the Ashes, he had taken 45 wickets in 10 tests at 19.6 under McCullum’s leadership.

He played in 3 of the 4 Tests in the last tour of India, taking 8 wickets, so assuming the ECB retain him, he goes, and the wickets are more spin friendly, then he’ll probably have a holding role rather than a strike role.

Quite sure that India will prepare pitches that favour their play, naturally, so it will be interesting to see how England adapt.

Jimmy Anderson is a great bowler, but every test he plays from now on is mudding the water and memories,
Even today when Woakes and Broad got it swinging Jimmy still looked all of the 41-year-old he is

England has to build for the future and the next Ashes, Jimmy can not be in the plans so why not step down on top, Even going to India in early 2023 what is the point ? give somebody their chance and let them grow into test cricket

You have to look at who England was playing first, then he picked up an injury and not played any cricket for months
at jimmy's age injury takes longer to heal and even hard to get match fit, Jimmy was not fully fit and had strapping on his ankle, it sort of smells of sentimental reasons why was picked and the played

I think people are overlooking how little the new ball has generally moved throughout this series.

Whilst I would have played Tongue at Old Trafford and The Oval, I don’t believe it’s fair to write off arguably England’s GOAT after one poor series.

I don’t disagree but I also think that there is a sentimentality/loyalty at the heart of English cricket that will likely see Anderson opening the bowling against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford next summer.

I agree that England need to begin their rebuild. For example, Wood and Woakes will be 35 and 36, respectively, when England next go to Australia, so it’s highly unlikely that they’ll be going Down Under either. England at last look to have their batting sorted, but the bowling could be a concern for some time. That could be another reason why they take Anderson to India so as to act as a level of insurance and experience for the younger players.

Whilst I frkt after the first test that Jimmy wasn't effective and felt bringing someone else in was the right thing todo , and nothing else in the series has suggested otherwise. After listening to his interviews the last couple of days he is as disappointed as anyone , but believes he had miles in the clock yet and that he can perform much better. He is in a far better position to judge that than ourselves . And I assume that he has been given insight that there is still a future for him if he wants to continue.
That coupled with Broady retiring, I guess he needs to continue and prove himself and england need his experience we already have to replace Broad
