As does Buttler, as could Stokes. When Stokes starts an innings mainly blocking he is a much better batsman

Honestly think he has such a brilliant technique in defending/leaving - always looks in control & solid. That was my main annoyance when he dances down the pitch first ball to fast bowlers

13 dropped catches for England in the series and 118 extras have done for England
That might be an improvement, I think. They spurned 17 chances in the first 3 innings alone when they were in Australia. Remember all the jokes about England being unable to catch anything at a time when everyone was catching COVID!

We’re basically having to take 13 wickets per innings against the world test champions.
Against lesser sides you may be able to get away with it but against Australia? No chance.

England have been far too sloppy in this series. It really should be 1-1 but all they have to do now is play sensible and they've retained The Ashes

Yep it was a great session for England that

1st session was incredible for England, 2nd one was good for Australia, but ultimately on an incredibly fast outfield where everything that gets past the fielder is going for 4 and the ball has stopped moving after 30 overs, they're one wicket from bowling at the tail after 2 sessions, that's a fine day in any test.

yeah i think the score seems ok on the balance, from England's perspective. Of course the drops are frustrating.

Of course England need to bat yet :D

I’ve said all along that I think our bowling was excellent today, however the fielding was abysmal with particular reference to the dropped catches by Bairstow and Root; such basics were the difference between 97 for 6 just after lunch as opposed to 244 for 5 at tea. We are by no means out of this test but the difference between those 2 alternative scores is huge, and we are chasing a game we should be in control of.

So it's even worst Knowing we were Crap in the field in the last ashes and have not done anything to improve it.
Great from the ECB again

That's fair - the annoyance stems from the unnecessary mistakes which took the foot off the throat.

Can imagine Carey will be peppered

Delicately balanced at Tea. England will need to push hard after the interval and try to get the Australians out for close to 300. If it closes 350 all out, it will be a bitter pill to swallow having had the top four back in the hutch for 85.
