Cricket Thread

We handed them those first two tests. That Aussies side is some way short of some of their teams that have come over in the last 20-30 years.

I think them playing the world test championship put them at least 1 test ahead of us in terms of getting up to speed, and Woakes and Wood missing the first 2 tests was a big factor.

Having said that they lost Lyon who the whole bowling attack is built around.

And that is why test cricket is still THE format. The 20 and 50 over stuff is fine, and I understand the appeal of it (having a match that finishes in one day. But you can't get better than what we've seen this summer.

You can shove that bloody hundred nonsense, though!
Sad that it’s over, it was a great stop gap for the football.

Moeen has just called time aswell. Not a bad way to go out and to be fair he's contributed a fair bit even before this afternoon. Dug in with the bat and picked up useful wickets .... Smith and Labuschagne at Headingley spring to mind.

And we were missing Archer and Leach…

Good point re Lyon. Memories of McGrath in 2005.

Agreed Jim. As stated, once we washed, ironed and wore our mojo we were there.
Just shows how important every Test is.
We can improve too, no doubting that.
I’ll be intrigued to see how England do that. I think that a fair number of the current squad have probably gone over the hill, but sentimentality and the desire to keep a good team spirit will likely see many of them retained. That’s now two home Ashes series where England have failed to win, and they‘ll now need to work on building a bowling unit for the next trip to Australia.

They get better the more cricket they play.

Whenever they have a break from playing, the Bazball hype seems to overtake them and they do stupid things just to show how Bazball they are.

Players like Root, Brook, Ali all reverted to something close to their natural games as the series went on and they were much better for it.

Great result today. England have clearly been the dominant team in this series. Should have won this easily.

Asked if he thought 2- 2 was a fair result . Ponting the narrowed eyed ignorant prick said he did, as he thought England deserved their comeback. ‍ Completely missing the fact that the question was surely about whether Australia deserved to draw the series ?
