I was watching the ODI with Eng vs NZ and are England playing the fools with the World Cup just around the corner,
Very poor all round by both batting and bowling and also team selection and it's just so boring and slow going
Who should we pick, given that Bairstow was out injured?

A 50 over team needs at least of the Brook/Root/Malan type that can anchor an innings.

Buttler is a certainty, as is Bairstow. We batted below our level today, but still got nearly 300.

Let's hope they are and trying somethings! You don't won't to peak to soon! There are 3 more games left to play though so we will see

nearly 300 in the modern ODI 50 overs cricket is not good enough anymore, England maybe was playing around and not wanting to show their hand too soon, with very poor batting and bowling by England and NZ-worthy winners

I've got this feeling in the World Cup England will go with the old boys and be coming home early

here is the squad England's provisional World Cup squad
Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

4 or 5 on that list should not be going

Ok, so who are they and who should replace them?

South Africa nearly defended 223 against Australia the other day.

Scores are still dependent on the surface the game is being played on.

No point engaging with him. When it comes to Cricket he can't take the rough with the smooth. We're double World Champions in Cricket and he only gets excited when we lose a match.

We have locked horns over the years and he was right about moving Root on as captain, even though he didn’t know for who at the time!

We all have differing opinions that are sometimes positive and negative. He’s generally the latter, but it’s probably because he cares, rather than just hating everything about any English side.

I think if we made Stokes captain for the World Cup, that we’d have a far bigger chance of winning it. Buttler seems passive.

Fair play that's a very level headed way of looking at things. And you're probably right if he wasn't passionate about the England team he wouldn't be posting about them.

I just wish he'd cheer up sometimes. It's depressing reading his posts half the time!

Agree I'd make stokes captain but it will only happen if butler gets injured..

Some fans are like that. Look at our matchday and prematch threads!

Didn’t see the game yesterday but looking at the pictures of Freddie Flintoff in the papers and, good god, if that’s nearly NINE months after his Top Gear accident I wouldn’t like to have seen him in December. Bloody hell, I am shocked.
