Yesterday every time the Aussies put bat on ball they got a four, the narrative on Sky was it’s that type of pitch, every time we do we either nick off or hit the fielder, massive difference in class in all departments. If we somehow got a result it will be due to the individual brilliance of a couple of individuals, which has been the story of the series….nothing left to do other than (as bumble would say) give it some Walllllllopp
 
I think it's less clunky to use gender neutral language than using batswoman and woman of the match.

It's also something that's happened more and more over the last century or so. There's loads of professions that used to be split into male and female nouns that now just use one.
We’ll have to agree to disagree.

Batter is terribly clunky English, in my opinion of course and I’ll never call someone a batter, unless I’m watching baseball or baking a cake.
