People keep saying it's been a "great" series, it's been entertaining yes, but "geat" ?

There has been some very poor batting from both sides for me, and far too much short pitched bowling too (though that was aided by poor batting choices).

Hey ho, onto The Oval.
Agreed. I said it has been an intriguing series but far from a classic. There have been some good sessions of cricket but there have also some quite dreadful ones that one would not want to see repeated. Both sides arguably appear to be on the wane and are in need of a refresh.

Do wish they’d go back to 6 Test series, in both venues, and space the games more appropriately.

With England playing the Bazball cricket and trying to keep tests cricket alive by getting results you think lady luck would shine on England, But No, Up pops the weather and test cricket fans lose a day of what would have been great cricket drama, but the Aussies retain the Ashes thanks to the rain,

The draw has to be taken out of Tests cricket somehow because that's what killing Test Cricket, playing for 5 days and no result sends out the wrong message to people looking to get into tests cricket over the 20/20 ODI

Am all for an extra day if need be to get a result in a big series like the Ashes, or a shoot-out on an all-weather pitch that could be made very easily on all grounds, it would be fun seeing the rainfall and players out there. It's summer after all so it would not be cold just wet

I’m with you @cleavers we need to thrash their backsides at the Oval. The Australian cricket team are bad sportsmen as far as I’m concerned! JMHO

the Ashes are retained and that was the first option for them because its a no lose go-home with their heads held high. Also, they know England are shit down under and get a right thumping most times, so its 4 years until they have to come here again

Hypothetically can’t someone, with all the technology and engineering available in the world in 2023, design some sort of pop up roof that can go over a cricket ground?

It doesn’t need to be permanent at every ground, they just need to make one giant pop up gazebo type structure that the ECB can own and take it around to each ground England play at in key series.
Was thinking exactly that myself.

Some draws can be great spectacles and have nail biting finishes, so in the course of a longer series they have their place.

This is taken from the BBC. England do not deserve to be behind in this series.

Picking up on what Michael Vaughan was saying about England being the better side, looking at runs per wicket between the two sides, we've had three very close Tests, but then England were decisively better in this game. 36.9 runs per wicket to England and 32.6 for Australia. So England are 4.3 runs per wicket better than Australia.

That's England's biggest superiority over Australia in a home Ashes series since 1985. Even the series that they've won in 2005, 2009, 2013. They haven't been this far ahead in terms of runs per wicket. The huge difference is scoring rate. England are 4.68 to Australia's 3.39. That's the biggest difference in scoring rate between the two teams in any Ashes series ever played.
