Archer has hardly played since he changed to England, I wouldn't even give him a contract till he proves he can bowl for more than a month without getting injured again!

By my calculations he's earned £65,000 per wicket before match fees and bonuses.

Agree, but does it help keep them from going to franchise cricket abroad? Or do they do that as well?

both slices of the pie, It is so wrong to give them central contracts when they can also play in franchise cricket abroad,

I feel for county cricket and young players looking to go on to play for England, Somebody could find some outstanding form with a bat or ball and never get a call-up, Also when you are given a central contract you stop playing every week and in all formats,

They can still do that but there's clarity on what games they can and can't play this way. If they weren't on central contracts they'd probably turn England down to make more money in franchise cricket.

Then you are in cricket for the wrong reasons, Playing for England in any form of cricket should be and I hope it is still a great honour.

Look I don't disagree with them making good money, But central contracts for playing for your country are daft, Please give everybody the same chance in county cricket, Moeen Ali in the summer had given up test cricket, but because he was still on a central contracts he got picked because its how it works,

How will you ever know if you are a good enough spinner for test cricket, Rehan Ahmed had a great tour of Pakistan and should have been playing before Moeen Ali this summer

England select who they want central contracted or not. If they are playing well they get called up and maybe a central contract the year after.

Like Brook.

But like I said what about somebody hitting some good form in county cricket who is not under the system.
Even if you are 30 or 35 and find some later form in life, Central contract stops that happening because if you are on a central contract but out of the team you will be back and next inline for a call up

Moeen Ali is a prime example, He gave up on test cricket But had a central contract because of the ODI and 20/20 format and got the call

Like Gleeson did from nowhere being a part time cricketer to getting a call up 34 for 3 months.

The Central Contracts are there to give counties certainty too, you can replace a player and get the money, and have improved England and Wales' national team no end.
