They might hope that was NL. The power and consistency of their top 6 or 7 puts ours to absolute shame
They generally look like one of the standout teams in major competitions, only to capitulate in crunch situations.

I still can’t believe they lost that semi-final against Australia in 1999.

I agree though. Their middle order must be the strongest in the tournament. But Jansen at 7 seems a place too high if they lose some early wickets. There’s also question marks over how well they chase. They could easily have lost against Pakistan the other day.

They should be chasing today, strange toss decision from NZ. They have a plan to preserve wickets til at leat 30 overs, try and go at 5 an over in those first 30 and then let that middle order blast the last 20. Worked very well so far (apart from v Netherlands). It must be nice to have a game plan, we fucking don’t! Agree about 1999, definitely a bottle job but it’s 25 years on nearly. Beating India will be a real challenge

Don't know exactly why, but I'm kind of rooting for SA. It wouldn't at all discountenance me to see them win two world cups within weeks of each other! Given England's abject performance in this one, and a better-than-expected-but-not-quite-there performance in the rugby one, I'd be quite happy for SA to do it. Much rather them than India or Australia, anyway.
