Rain made a result look unlikely but Lanky to declare or get out. Jennings out of 96 going for a big shot. 202 ahead and they will be looking for 250.
 
Thought they would declare soon after a 250 lead to get 8 in before lunch and rest. Fully expected it once 300 ahead, 339 now at lunch seems very cautious. T20 batting for the last hour or so.

Not officially declared yet, 68 left so Essex would need 5 an over to win.

Declared as expected now. Needs the Burnley Express to get a fifer in his swan song (possible).
 
Surrey motor away from Hampshire and end up with a surprising 9-wicket victory. Did not see that coming yesterday or even this morning. Pope is looking in really good nick (122 not out) and with Foakes already having a century this season, that augurs well for England.

Hampshire commentators were crestfallen. Two sixes to finish and I think there was still another hour of play left as well. Good to see Sibley get some runs. Strange game because Hampshire were rather let off the hook on Thursday and then the weather on Friday suggested a draw. No game next weekend and then up to Warwickshire.

He won the toss last year, too, and then decided to put Surrey in, cue 467 and a win by an innings and 17 runs. Evidently thought better of it this year but another loss.

After two rounds, Warwickshire top the Championship tonight but nobody has won both games.
 
What was the point in starting the Championship season so early and then having 6 games last week and only 5 this? Seems odd.

Anyway, Surrey have Warwickshire all out for 150, but I suspect rain and light will continue to blight play.
 
What's going on with Lancs bowling? Get teams 4 down for not many but struggle to finish them off. It's happened pretty much every game with the exception of Essex who got 219 first innings (and first innings lead) but were 25 for 3 in bowler friendly conditions.

Surrey 77/4 made 442 - 1st innings.
Somerset 80/4 made 441 - 1st innings.
Nottinghamshire 85/5 made 249 - 1st innings. 55/6 - 2nd innings but couldn't bowl them out with almost 40 overs left.
Somerset 55/4 made 361 - 1st innings.
 
Archer out for the season.
It must be close to the time when England and the media have to accept that he's not going to be available for Test cricket. He's 28 now, and has played over twice as many T20s as long form county/tests.
 
Shame for Archer but since he has come into this England side he has been out 90% of the time because of injuries! If Bowling 4 overs and his elbow flares up tells me he be quitting test match four day cricket and even 50 over cricket!
