Earliest declaration since 1937
Was that the Australian's in Melbourne?

We'll never know, of course, but I wonder how much the declaration yesterday was a case of "we mean business and we'll be unconventional" as opposed to "we think the conditions are favourable for seam bowlers taking a couple of quick wickets".

Whatever the thinking it was not a great move. Those 14 runs they got last evening could have been on our score.

Kind of defeats the object shoehorning him into a role he's never done, outside of white ball stuff obviously.

The only way I see Foakes getting in is if either Stokes breaks down (Bairstow bats at 6) or we go with 2 spinners at some point. The former is more likely.
Duckett has hardly ever opened, spent most of his career at 3 or 4.

It’s about entertainment with England you watch that 20mins bowling at Australia the crowd were all on there feet like a football match! It was great entertainment we just didn’t get that wicket! Maybe if we didn’t declare we get another 50 or we could of been all out and only got another 10 runs!

As I said earlier, it's one of those decisions that we probably won't be able to fully understand and appreciate until the end of the series.
There was only Anderson to come in and perhaps they may have seen out the day adding 20 runs. They would be bowled out pretty quickly in the morning more than likely. So get the the Aussie openers in for a nervy few overs after a hot day in the field rather than a refreshed pair in the morning. Stokes takes risks. I for one like it after the cautious type captains like Root.

Today looks like make or break really. If the Aussies get any kind of lead, then I'd say the momentum's with them and they could well go on to win the match. On the other, if we got three cheap wickets in the morning session — and that's always possible with this team, if we hadn't let them off the hook with several missed chances we'd already have them on the ropes — it could swing our way.
Anyway, makes for intriguing cricket. What's the crowd at Edgebaston, by the way? Is it a sell-out?

Absolutely fine there at the moment.
Is this morning but looking really ropey for the rest of the day
