Foakes isn’t coming back.

Bairstow mistakes cost about 50 runs which is painful but England will put it down to rustiness. His catch for Labuschagne’a dismissal was excellent.

Stokes will back the team.

If they’ve made one big mistake this match it’s probably leaving Wood out on this wicket. He’s the only bowler we have who’s got the pace to get something out of it when it’s not moving around like yesterday.
 
Foakes test average 32, Crawley 28. Take that freak double hundred out (which is a bit harsh) and Crawley average 21. Not worth his place

Bairstow missed chances have cost well over 50 and will continue to cost us. He’s a shambolic wicket keeper, and our openers are piss poor

I didn’t say Foakes to open, I said he needs to come in as wicket keeper and one of the openers should be taken out. I’d even consider Stokes opening, his batting is loads better when he has to focus and play sensibly. Crawleys runs at the top of the order won’t be missed
 
Reminder that Cummins has the joint second fastest 50 in IPL history. Just 14 balls.

We need him out quickly.

An average in the 20’s is way below test standard for an opener. Crawley has a less than average technique, a way less than average mentality and is extremely fortunate (a) that England have been very loyal and (b) that there is a shortage of class openers in England.

I cant disagree with this too much , but it wasn't the point in question . Most openers have lower averages than middle order batsmen, especially against a bowling attack that the aussies posses . And putting a square peg in a round hole probably won't fix the issue . A bit like putting alvarez in goal because we don't have too many shots against us and he needs minutes lol
 
Picking Ali looks knee jerk and not thought out well by the England camp! Ali fingers are fucked now after ONE innings of bowling! We must have a spinner in county cricket other than Ali!?
