I would play Foakes come what may

Surrey are hosting Lancashire on Sunday, with that match not scheduled to end until Wednesday next, when the Test at Lord’s begins. Just don’t see England making that change until Headingley.

It's the same issue with all of them we can't keep them fit

I think they just dont get used to bowling long spells anymore as the county set up does not allow it.

I would but they wont change the team (Moeen aside and that'll be because of his finger).
A top class keeper would probably have made a big difference. Bairstow certainly doesn't come under that category.

We went in with 4 seamers, a spinner and a couple of part time bowlers, although Root is better than that.
And there lies the problem.
Jimmy and Stokes have both been injured (Stokes still is) and Moeen hasn't played red ball cricket for 2 years.
The result was we needed Broad and Robinson to take most of the wickets and we lacked variation at the end.

That's where the current issue is. Bairstow should be in as a batsman alongside Foakes but Brook came in and has been insanely good and Pope has found form so you can't fit them all in. Stokes is actually the one you'd have to drop which clearly is madness.

Ahmed has to be the spin option. Decent with the bat as well.

Jimmy and Moeen for Wood and Woakes next test. I'm hopeful Bairstow gets sharper. First big game since his double leg break, bound to be some rust!

They (Aussies) will not play as badly in the next test match with their batting, Khawaja got over 200 runs in the test match on his own the rest was poor, England needs to think long and hard about the wicket-keeper and Stokes as a bowling option at Lords, Yes we will go without a spinner and play 4 main seam bowlers, so Stokes plays higher up the batting line up and maybe Brooks misses out

You cant possibly be serious about leaving Brook out one of 2 world class batters we have

Yes he has. Just not a huge amount due to the wickets he has been playing on. Wouldn't pick him for Lords though anyway. But a consideration if Moeen is struggling later in the series.

Woakes has had his time

Got a Central contract so he is in their plans still. And at Lords he is our best option, unless we have set up a different wicket again.

I reckon Wood for Jimmy will be the only change though.

No because we actually win things. Seeing how happy the England players are that we lost but entertained makes me think they are more like arsenal of last season. I’m all for the positive stuff but at the end of the day in elite sports winning does also matter. Especially the ashes

Could you not just put Bairstow in as an opener to get Foakes in? Surely worth dropping one of our average openers to get our best wicket keeper (who’s pretty consistent with the bat too) in.
