Been lucky to see so much play today but I think we're going to end up batting again here. I fear we're going to need a full session tomorrow.
Don’t agree with that at all. Bairstow got the runs really quickly so took minimal time out of the game, without it we would actually be in arrears by now, and doing it put their chins to the follow and we took 4 wickets
No problem. It's all about opinions. I still think that we could have prised out another couple with the extra time we'd have been bowling at them. Yes, we would not have had as big a lead. But we possibly could have got them out cheaper than is looking likely at the moment. And as we need the win (a draw is useless), maybe it would have been worth the gamble.
It's a great plan no doubt about it But will we not need to bat again? I hope not, given the time restraints.I think there's two things. Stokes wanted to grind the Aussies faces into the ground. The way they themselves like to do. He wanted them to think they had no chance, so that they would come out with their heads still down. That can be defended.
Secondly, I think he wanted to give his team a single, clear objective. Bowl and field the Aussies out. We don't bat again. Again, I can see the logic.
Is that you Johnny ?Live I thought I heard bat first

But today had been predicted for pretty much all the week. They can't say that they were taken by surprise when they woke up this morning and looked out of the window. Time was key. And we were likely to have a very limited amount of it over the weekend. The spell we got this afternoon was a bonus, but we didn’t make full use of it. We needed a minimum of two wickets (preferably 3 or 4), to give us a fighting chance. Unless Wood and/or Broad can come up with a demon spell when (if?) we get back on again, we're really going to be up against the clock.Almost certainly, the plan hasn't worked. But you can see how it would have concentrated minds. Had we been able to come out and bat from 11 this morning, I'm pretty certain this would have gone very differently. Their heads were gone. They had time to settle, and regroup.
Personally I think the original plan was to declare only 100 or so runs ahead but when Root got “Castled” the other day - by no means the only time the pitch behaved inconsistently on day 2 - I reckon they changed their plans because there was a worry that the pitch was going to deteriorate badly, making batting something of a nightmare if we were chasing any kind of total in the fourth innings. Hence, the idea that we should get as far ahead on first innings as possible to try and negate the need to bat again. But today had been predicted for pretty much all the week. And plenty of English were defending what Broad did.Yet when Broad didn’t walk a few years ago he had the whole country slagging him, death threats, the lot. Horrible 2 faced cunts
Jimmy Anderson well past his best. The new ball is only 9 overs away and should there be any play tomorrow that will be the key.
The way the pitch played today we were crying out for a top quality spinner.
I was surprised Stokes decided to bat on as long as he did but it’s a moot point if it rains all day tomorrow.
Not really, had he declared without the Bairstow/Anderson partnership, they'd already have a lead, making any possible chase tomorrow longer.I was surprised Stokes decided to bat on as long as he did but it’s a moot point if it rains all day tomorrow.

Yeah, but we've got to get them out. And they looked relatively untroubled this afternoon. Hopefully the new ball will do the trick, if they manage to get any play tomorrow.Looking at the metoffice radar map, could still be a chance of play from mid afternoon tomorrow, fingers crossed
