Strange there's no sixth test this summer. From what I can see the next cricket for England is a few T20s against NZ, but that's not for another month.

I think people are overlooking how little the new ball has generally moved throughout this series.
Whilst I would have played Tongue at Old Trafford and The Oval, I don’t believe it’s fair to write off arguably England’s GOAT after one poor series.
But is Jimmy blocking somebody else progress by playing on, trying somebody new takes time and you will need 2 or 3 series home and away before you feel at home, What has Jimmy got to prove anymore at 41 holds all the England bowling records and test match records for a bowler,
Please Jimmy do the right thing and walk away

We have a major rebuilding job.Realistically Jimmy,Woakes and Wood will not make it down under for the next ashes.Tongue,Stone,Robinson and a decent spinner need to bedded in.Akinson,Potts and Overton need looking at.Im writing Jofra and Saqib off as they are never fit.
There have already been 6 tests. It used to be 7 until the last 5 years, predating the 100 which was meant to be a T20 comp for 2020. The reduction was in 2019, I'm not sure it the reduction was directly related to the 100.No time to fit another test in jim, with the whole of August given to the hundred.

I'll hold my hands up and admit I got it wrong.
Said 4-0, 4-1 Australia.
Fair play to England. We played some excellent cricket and should have won the first test when the Aussies needed 50 odd with just 2 wickets left.
The Bairstow run out (it was fair) seemed to turn the series.
We played harder, with more fire and went out to punish them, where I felt we got the balance wrong in the first 2 tests. More intent on entertaining, than winning. But we had chances to win the series and we did that playing an aggressive brand of cricket.
I felt the rain was always gonna disrupt one game but the Aussies know we've run them very close.

England not only have to identify the bowlers that will form their spearhead for the next two Ashes series, but they also have to get them on contracts that protect them from being run into the ground.

The ECB want the England players in the hundred, so the end of July is going to be the cut off point for test matches from now on. No International one day cricket vs the aussie's for the first time since probably the one day game took off. It's all down to the hundred.There have already been 6 tests. I still miss the 40 over competition.
That was a fun competition - Sunday's game.
First match I went to was Glamorgan vs Hampshire - Hampshire's opening pair were Barry Richards and Gordon Greenidge, and Andy Roberts opened the bowling.

It has been at different times, especially from the 1970s onwards, though the most recent 6 Test series was 1997. I think there would be huge demand for a return to the 6 Test format. England has plenty of grounds crying out for the opportunity to host a Test, and Hobart has shown that it, too, can host a Test.True. But I was actually referring to the Ashes. yes, that's right. The Hundred will either not happen or be in parallel with tests.

As you say the hundred is an abomination.I still miss the 40 over competition.
It's the very worst of franchise cricket, with players you expect to play for your local team, playing for some other "local" team, with no relevance to it's actual location, it's just a weird gimmick, hopefully will die a death soon enough. I've not watched any of it, and I won't, an awful degradation of real cricket, that even short versions of normal cricket haven't plumbed the depths of.
Worse still, the whole cricket season now revolves around it, to suit the school holidays.
In a single word "shite".
