Why declare with two full days to go?

Did the right thing to bat and continue to demoralise their attack.

Bat for an hour or even to lunch tomorrow and then put them in with no hope of winning and only hope is surviving. Very difficult to bat knowing you’ve no chance of the win

Ha ha - I had it my head for a couple of minutes this morning that there were only 2 days left. After all, a 533 run lead with just 2 days play gone is seriously mental! England could end up with a 700-800 run lead here and still have the best part of half a test match left to bowl them out ;)

I suppose @waspish had a point though. Stokes does have form for declarations, the most bizarre one being on day one of the first Ashes test last year!

Yes, it had me wondering if it was a record lead after day 2 with both teams having already batted and into the third innings. I’ll do some digging - Cricinfo usually good for that kind of thing.
