Just seen first ball is 2:30. Might have to set myself up on the sofa for the next few nights.

Do we want to bowl or bat first looking at the pitch? I presume bat based on what people are saying about spin and the pitch deteriorating.

Bat first pitch will get worse it won’t be like in England where pitch been lasting 4/5 days! But I have question mark if the game will last more than a 3 and half days so maybe I’m more in the lose the toss!

I think the last first test in Oz i stayed up for and we were about 4 down in an hour. I went to bed and hardly watched another ball all series.

I first listened to tests from Aus in the mid sixties. Very poor radio reception at 6am. Barber and Boycott put on 234 for the first wicket in one test 1966 and plenty of decent opening partnerships on that tour. Would we could do that now.

Yeah but Stokes never chooses to bat and the Aussies will never choose to bowl.

It doesn't make sense to play 4 seamers with Stokes. What's the plan B? It also makes sense for the Aussies to create a surface that brings spin into play because that's the glaring issue in this England side. For me, if they do it's purely to cover off a potential injury to Wood.

Plan B would be Joe Root bowling and Stokes bowling cutters. I think England is thinking they will blast through the Aussies with pace and don't need the spinner.

The problem is that the new stadium and wicket doesnt have much to look back on with the stats, last year 17 wickets fell on the first day vs India ? Maybe that is why England is thinking of going with pace

Watching Steve Smith have a set up question from a home journo just to have a pop at Monty for his Mastermind performance is a perfect example why I detest the Convicts.
Genuinely hope to see him in tears come the end of this Ashes Series.
Smarmy sarcastic swine.
Should have got a life ban for the ball tampering episode.

Anyone wanting to read or listen to what the real Cricket players used to endure should get this. A truly wonderful book. 1000096010.jpg

A lot of uncertainty over here, some honest radio pundits really concerned about this test. It is drop in pitch so not your traditional WACA pace and bounce. There will be movement early and the forecast is mixed day 2 & 3 which if cloudy could be touch humid and do a bit.
Its all to play for just hope we can bat long and put runs on the board, Lyon is going to be crucial as we have nothing comparable.
Buzzing for tomorrow come on England

Proper smug little arsehole isn't he, hopefully Archer and Wood dish out some sweet chin music this morning.

Bashir is utter dross imo. I don't see what he brings to the table that Root doesn't. Play the extra seamer, especially if playing both Wood and Archer

Do you think stokes wins the toss and bowls?

Depending on the conditions I think it's beneficial for England to bowl first. Get out there as a group and create our own hostility early doors. If we bat first there's immense pressure, and whilst conceding a load of runs bowling first creates problems I think we're more likely to bat well if we have a target and have seen the conditions first hand. Bowl first, get everyone out there settled into things and give the Aussies some shit.

Saw that, what a load of fucking nonsense. Ask Monty who was the crying captain caught cheating and he'd know the answer.

England can play Pope as a wicket keeper and still play all 4 and Bashir
But England will name 3 quicks and Bashir and have Stokes bowling after the ball goes soft

Having the options is the key, the Aussie will play Nathan Lyon's because he's done well at Perth before, so england must have a change-up at both ends after the new ball goes soft and Bashir spin and Stokes mixed up cutters and slower balls.
