Well the day finished better than it started thanks to Root and Archer.

We will see whether the England total is competitive by this time tomorrow.

6 overs to go to the new ball - be piss funny if these two add another 50 runs in the morning.

Knowing us, we'll be all out in the first over of the day though!
It's more than I thought we would get when I posted originally
We've got a decent score ino
As maybe the pitch will cut up

A great fight was shown by Archer and Root at the end. I could hear one of Richie Benaud's best quotes, Be there at stumps. Them 60-odd runs on this wicket with a pink ball are worth double if you bowl well. The Aussies never change. How slow was the over rate, the last 30 minutes England did them with quick runs and It could be a game-changer.

Still some very dodgy batting in the england camp by giving your wicket away. Why do we keep chasing a wide ball
Anyway, Positives today and england can be right back in the series if we bowl well

Turned out to be a decent day, not much more you can say about Root.

Archer sending it and hanging in there though has really helped. It would be great if he can get to 50 and Root 150 tomorrow morning.

On the BBC lots of folks saying Root is the greatest ever English batsman. While he is certainly one of them, a quick look at Wally Hammond's stats suggest it's not a gimme. Here are his 6 centuries down under.

29/12/28 Australia Melbourne 200
01/02/29 Australia Adelaide 119 not out
02/12/32 Australia Sydney 112
