Croatia ??

zadar, dubrovnik and split are the places to go, a drive along the coast would be great. all the towns are the same in a way but all classy. in zadar-walk the prominade at night! the music from the sea is special an lights are cool. these town a re fortified if you like a bit of history. get out in the sea if you can.

zagreb just looks like any old post commy capital,it didn t leave much of an impression on me.

the coast has a lagoon stretching for miles and the mountains are class. the food is lovely and cheap, a hint of italian cuisine mixed through their foods.

they ll love you if you are a celt! the men gather to sing folk songs which are some of the nicest i ever heard....beautiful harmonies!!

they hate smokers!!!

Ah right. We were at Hotel Vis which I think is maybe in the next bay south of you.
Taxi driver from the airport said that Dzeko had done a charity soccer fund raiser thing for local kids which had gone down very well, which was a bit of a surprise!

We stayed just up the hill from there at Dubrovnik Palace, it was great. We had 2 weeks there in Sept 2011 and would definitely go back. We even found a pub to watch the match!

We played tennis at the Hotel Splendid, just down the hill from there almost every day.
Has to be the tennis court with the most spectacular views in Europe ( Mrs G-Star not so impressed as unusually I beat her 4 games to 1 over the week !)

Hotel Vis has what it terms a "private beach" but in reality anyone can access it provided they shell out for one or more of the loungers.
Be warned though, the beach has no sand and is really covered in pebbles and you need to wear crocks or similar just to walk across it to the sea/bar.

My son and his best mate (who's Mum and Dad are Croatian) are going to a music festival there in the summer, apparently it's one of the biggest in Europe. I've not been over that way since I was a kid, when it was Yugoslavia and remember very little of it :)

We went to Korcula a few years ago and had a great time. We stayed near Lumbarda and by luck found out that this was one of the best sandy beaches on the island.

They do seem to be quite relaxed over there about nudity and there was a lot of topless sunbathing going on.

Good hearty food in most local restaurants and a free shot of spirits at the end of the meal.

Korcula is nice.

I'm shocked by how many people mentioned Split though. It's in no way a tourist destination though it's the biggest city in Dalmatia. It's mainly a transport centre with port and lines to islands. Nice old part of the city but that's pretty much all.

They are most craziest bunch of people in Croatia and probably the most sporting town in the World. Most of top Croatian sportsman are from there - Boksic, Jarni, Asanovic, Stimac, Bilic (football), Ivanisevic (tennis), Balic (handball), Kukoc, Radja (basketball), Blanka Vlasic (athletics) etc,etc.. loads of people who were top in their sports and it's approx. big as Manchester.
