crypto interest

Interesting reading the first post on this, because I bought gold for my wedding in September last year. Since then, it's gone up 20% on the price we paid. It's easy to look at volatile things and assume that you're going to make a fortune indefinitely. But I have no doubt that the long term gains will be far more modest.

Trump set up his own Crypto Currency $Trump just a few days ago, it's difficult to find out exactly the value but some reports are saying he's made $25b from a minted profile of $31b. It apparently took the market by surprise.

On another matter Elon Musk's Tesla is expected to do very well under Trump's presidency, they are friends and Trump will ensure market conditions are favourable for Technology companies such as Tesla.

I hold a bit in UTICS ETFs but not a lot (mostly in Wisdomtree), it spreads it out across various crypto currency. Its been pretty good over the last year, but its not for the feint hearted and would only suggest sticking money you can afford to lose in it.

It lost half its value in the first month I was in the fund back in 2023, but its the nearest I get to any form of gambling, bar a flutter on the grand national and is significantly up over the last year.

I have 35 XRP which I purchased at 19p 4 years ago. They are now worth £2.60 each

So ~£6.50 -> ~£91

I’m obviously hoping one day it will rise in value similar to ETH or BC, but more likely I might sell for £300 in about 5 years!
Ive just bought XRP. After being very sceptical about investing in it ive give in. Ive a close pal who is very much invested both monetary and emotionally in it. Its a small £2k gamble on my part, thats how im looking at it.

I invest any other spare money in gold. Ive near enough doubled my money over the past couple of years and itll always be a safe option. And i like safe

Likewise. Bought yesterday. First Crypto gamble on this one. Obviously gone down since I bought :). I’ll just keep it in case it goes silly! You never know.

Yeah my £2k is worth £1800 now haha

I kinda got my head round it being a gamble, though im not a gambler. The guy who ‘advised’ me put £15k in and its worth £75k. A mutual friend has pumped £500k into it!!

Nice! I’m thinking long term on these. It could go a number of ways I guess but like you I was talked into it. I met my mate for a coffee on Friday and told him and he put £1k in whilst we were chatting about it!!

re "always be a safe option": Gold price in USD over 100 years (doesn't run up to current)

And you also need to overlay USD/GBP rate on top of that.

But yeah, far safer than crypto, which I wouldn't touch with a bargepole. Gold has intrinsic value at least.

That graph not running up to current doesnt give a realistic view then really does it as its risen a lot in the last 5 years

Itd have to have some crash for me to not at least get my money back and its nigh on doubled from what i was purchasing at. And ill be keeping hold for at least another 15 years.
Im a million miles from being any sort of financial expert so gold is a nice easy way for me to invest as and when i choose. And its done ok for my family over the years IMG_0850.jpeg

A rise in the last five years isn't the point - the history of gold and any other commodity shows they can go up and down in quite dramatic ways, even after years of fairly steady rises.

Gold is not guaranteed to hold its value, even over the long term. It may, of course, if you are lucky (and it is just luck) to buy at the right time, deliver a great return.

I wish you nothing but the best for your investment, but you're kidding yourself if you feel otherwise.

I guess all we can all do is read up, listen to people we think know their onions, look at graphs over time, and decide where you wish to place your money.
Ill keep it in gold for now

Gonna be a wild ride. Basically from my dabbles in it last boom cycle you are best just putting into BTC and forgetting about it. All the other major coins dance to its tune and memecoins are just pure degenerate gambling. The opportunity is there to make money no doubt but never fool yourself you have it cracked. It's not a game I have any interest in playing at the moment but good luck to anyone getting involved.

To anyone still holding cryptocurrency be on guard, I’ve just came so close to being scammed it’s scary.

Got an SMS from Binance message last week saying,

New device connection detected in Paris, France. If it is not you, call us immediately at 44 (2) 3824 41340.

I checked my account straight away and all my funds were still there, so I changed my password logged out and didn’t really think much of it.

About an hour ago I got another SMS message from Binance,

Your withdrawal code is 173517, if you did NOT authorize this contact us immediately on +448001026743

When this message came in I was caught off guard as I was working but obviously concerned so I phoned the number on the text and a woman answered “Hi this is the Binance security team can I start by taking your name please” then discussed with her the messages I’d been receiving so she said give me 2 minutes why I look into your account, about 20 seconds later she comes on saying your account has been compromised, how many assets do you have in your account, have you given your password to anyone else, have you logged in in some other location I was like no I haven’t, then she was saying we need to secure your account asap please can you tell us the funds and what the current values are, I said luckily I don’t have much money in this account as I transferred it to a more secure account, she said what account is that please because under legislation we are all linked to one and another so we need to know as a matter of urgency to secure your account, I said it’s crypto.com the next minute she’s on ‘a call’ to crypto.com about my account and she can now confirm that account has been compromised as well, she said we need to setup a trust wallet asap as your account is at risk, alarm bell’s started ringing at this point and I said I will speak to crypto.com directly after I finish the call with you and she was like that is very risky as you may lose all of your money before you can speak to them
