Crystal Palace (A) I PL I Post Match Thread

Really? I thought Guehi looked very impressive against the best striker in the world. Showed strength, anticipation, athleticism. Wharton looked decent too. Some great defence splitting passes at times (awful shooting though).

The only thing that annoyed me today is that the commentators kept banging on about "What if Pino had scored that chance?" At no point mentioning the fact that he was obviously offside from it.
So where was this world class Guehi against the watching England manager when Haaland had a free header in the box to score? Wharton has potential but I’m sure you get coached when you’re 8 years old that if you lift your head when you shoot then it’s going to sail over the bar. Not for me thank you .

Seems like you agreed with me
Well you said our defense was poor, that's completely different. I think there's room for improvement (there always is) but I wouldn't call them poor, they did their job and we kept another clean sheet. Only one conceded in 3 matches and that was in Madrid.

I thought first half we didn't really get going, second half we dominated palace.
If we can keep the four defenders fit for the season I think we'll win the league quite comfortably.
Both Nico's and nunes look like they belong in a city team and Dias and gvardiol are both returning to form.
Happy days.

Doesn't matter whether I would like them back or not, I can't do anything about it so I'm not going to whinge about it and I'm bored of other people whinging about it. I watch the game because I enjoy it and I like to enjoy a fucking good win, NOT go home and moan about how bad he was or who the manager should have played or how unlucky they were because they missed 5 chances, or how we need other midfielders back or whatever. WE WON! GET OVER IT!
again, where did i whinge about it, all i did was point out we could do with rodri and kovacic back sooner than later, did i moan about how bad he was or who the manager should have played or how unlucky they were, i realise you've dug an hole for youself so put the shovel down because you just look stupid now, stop making stuff up!

It wasn’t daylight robbery but a bit of a smash and grab. We still allowed too many chances due to a weakish midfield but the back four blocks were brilliant. A clean sheet to go with another three goals down to sheer hard work. Cherki is a star and Phil’s finish was superb. Nunes excellent. Shout out to Savinho for his penalty “assist”. A very good week.
Btw, I thought Kolo handled the presser on Friday very well.
I thought it was a master class. We defended a bit deeper than usual and caught Palace offside virtually every time they attacked. In the second half as they tired we just took them to the cleaners. We were much more aggressive in midfield and players threw themsleves into blocks at set pieces. Nunez was fantastic with Cherki in front of him. We missed Doku on the left. A fantastic performance in my view.

I think you misread

I think the only difference from treble season is that at the moment I don't necessarily expect us to win.
There’s an element of rosy retrospection in that, blue. In the treble season we were frustratingly inconsistent in the Nov-Jan months, losing to Brentford, Liverpool, United, Spurs and drawing v. Everton. It wasn’t until we thumped Villa and Arsenal in February did we go on that winning run.

Anyone doubting if Adam Wharton isn't good enough for City need to open there eyes. He is a very very good player and technically gifted. Pep would turn him into another Rodri. He had a quiet game today but still caused us a few problems in the first half. His eye for a pass is top level.
Regarding the game. Poor first 25 due to being way to passive. Not enough urgency but still thought we controlled it once we hit the front.
Huge shouts today for Gigi, Nunes, Dias, Foden, Haaland but for me Cherki was the man today.

I agree. 3-0 isn’t a smash and grab. Brilliant today but you’ll always find some people who want to focus on the negatives. Some of that football with Cherki and Foden was fantastic and they couldn’t cope. Joy to watch and 1-0 v the negatives tonight.

I think he is def worth a look at ...that duel with Haaland in the first half alone says he at least has the physicality in him.....however so much more to consider....

He will prob go tot he Dips anyway..they have clearly been tapping him up for a while but we are going to need to go into the market in the summer as we will prob lose both Stones and Ake as neither are available regularly and It wouldnt be a surprise if the heirachy said to both players to find new clubs....great servants but their time is done.
I suspect Stones is hanging in there in the hope he might get back to fitness and get a place on the World Cup squad but it's not looking good. He did say a few weeks ago he'd considered retiring last season, and at 31 he probably doesn't have too long left so at best he's probably looking at a one year deal IF he gets fit enough to play at all. If not he may well call it a day.

Ake's probably got a bit longer, he's contracted until the end of next season (26-27) so I think we'll hang on as we're not exactly blessed with options but he will need time as he's been out for a long time now.

I see Pep after the game was on about how much we are going to improve. He seems very bullish. I didn’t put it in the master class rank but the effort and commitment were outstanding especially in the second half. A poster the other day questioned our mentality…I couldn’t believe that. Maybe we have some technical shortfalls but I think the spirit is great. Onwards and upwards we go.

what none stop moaning, i merely pointed out we are struggling to control midfield and if you can't see that your'e thick, and by the way i started watching city in 1960 and got my first season ticket in 1972, went home and away until 2018 so fuck off lecturing me about the 80s and 90s
You’re user name proves your longevity.

We can be put under pressure by anyone but "second best" is hyperbole. If you watch back these two games we were the dominant side in both. We are slowly becoming a pretty good team again, we are just screaming out for someone capable of helping Nico in the middle
I wonder if Pep has anyone in mind for the second half of the season...? ;)

If palace could finish a chance we'd have lost or drawn today, but they couldn't finish their dinner!

Great confidence booster ahead of a couple of home games. Could end up top at Christmas, not that it counts for much, but given where we've come from that's a great turnaround.

Selhurst park the quietest ground in the league maybe?

Am not sure on this double jeopardy rule for bringing a player down for a penalty. I think it's a better rule, as the penalty is already punishment enough unless it's serious foul play, but taking some getting used to and was expecting Henderson to get his red finally, albeit 6 or 7 months too late.

Yes, yes I know. 6 7. Sigh.

I think your point about midfield isn't too far off, we are easy to cut through and lack control at times.
The other poster who thinks we were second best over both games is chatting a lot of shit though.
thank you philip, that's all i pointed out yet got some seemingly young whippersnappers giving me dogs abuse for it, these gen z types as i think they're known seem a very entitled bunch and need to bow to my superior knowledge which has been gained through decades of watching our beloved blues, what!
