Crystal Palace (A) | Post Match Thread

I think it’ll be an embarrassment if we manage to lose this title after the point advantage we had, but that’s me
An embarrassment really? Why does everything have to have a negative connotation? why can’t we just admit Liverpool are a fucking brilliant side and if they win it congratulate them for an unbelievable run of wins. We may not like liveepool but to lose an 8 point lead to them and to say it would be embarrassing is pathetic. Like a spoilt child

One thing that’s baffling me is how people are saying Liverpool have the ‘upper hand’ and it’s ‘theirs to lose’.

They win their game in hand and they’re a point behind us.

I’m assuming it’s because they need to play us but surely us being on top, having played the same amount of games after Wednesday, means it’s ours to lose..?

Never mind the fact they come to our place and not Anfield.
By the time we play them they could be first. They play before us

As much as I can see that happening from the typical City angle, logically we shouldn't look at it as a forgone conclusion. Even if Arsenal do roll over, so be it. Still in our hands.
Yeah absolutely. Just frustrating at times as teams put absolutely everything into games against us and then next game look like absolute dross. Consequence of being the best I suppose.

A very disappointing game. Frustrating and one we should've won with the chances we had - and one Palace fans will be thinking they could've won if they had the quality of players that we had.

The first half was great if you were a neutral as Palace looked like they could score on every counter. It was looking every inch the classic "sucker-punch" game. In truth, they could have had a couple of goals before HT and so could we. I honestly think without Dias, these games are more likely. They targeted Laporte and our left channel as they thought they'd get something from it.

What frustrates the most though is that if we had a Ronaldo, Ings, Richarlison, Toney, Sarr, Jota, Bowen or Salah, we'd have won. ANY striker in the PL would've scored tonight. Simple as that. The game was crying out for someone who can put the ball in the net and instead we had touch after touch after touch before missing straightforward goals that any striker would bury. We NEED a striker in summer, I can't put it any simpler than that.

The subs thing absolutely infuriated me. I love Bernardo but it wasn't working for him tonight. I'm not saying that Sterling would've won it, but surely he was worth trying? Same for Jesus who would've given us a more physical presence. I genuinely don't understand having a bench where there's no "Plan B" on it. Get some Ake up front and whip crosses in for him, just something other than 100 touches in their box!!! Cancelo is another who's either red hot or freezing cold and tonight he was Antartic cold, yet he stayed on the pitch.

I am struggling to see what Grealish is offering if I'm honest. He's a good footballer, no question, and I know that Pep's players take a season to get used to his methods but I just don't see enough to justify being a £100m footballer. I'm sure I'll be wrong about this, but I'd rather we'd have spent £125m on a striker as we'd get more end product.

The season will come down to the Liverpool game I suspect and I do think we will win it. However, it does feel like the momentum is moving away from us. Pep will sort it out, but these games make me worried - he has these games where he refuses to change anything even though it's not working. It's like not playing Rodri or Fernandinho, sometimes he just tries to make a point.

I'm normally very positive, but tonight is probably the first time this season I've thought we're up against it.

A very frustrating night overall, no question.

ZERO shots on goal, and only 4 attempts to score in the entire second half when we supposedly was going all in for a goal against a pretty bad Palace. Simply not good enough.

For some reason, which my simple mind will never understand, Pep (who I love, god bless him) thought us creating absolutely nothing in the second half was not a good enough reason to make a sub or try something new. This was probably the easiest point Palace will get all season, just had to stand in their own penalty box watching us pass the ball between our defenders for 15 minutes before we decide to put a cross in which they will just head away 100 times out of 100. Mahrez, Foden, Grealish all looking very poor tonight in my opinion, and our defenders seemed to take turns giving them counters in the first half. How they all managed to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes is astonishing.

I am very worried about our form at the moment, we were 14 pts ahead of Liverpool just 2 months ago, will probably be 1 on Wednesday. Its the same thing game after game, if we dont get an early goal we will struggle to score at all. No goals today. No goals the last game. 60+ mins before we could score on Peterborough. 80+ mins before we could score on Everton (a game we probably should have dropped points in as well if we didnt get insanely lucky with a ref decision). Lost against f*cking Spurs as usual. Only game we played well in the last 6 was against United, but even Watford batter them so not sure only beating them with 3 goals was a good sign either.

We looked immense earlier this season but unfortunately we seem to be unable to keep that level up this year. If we lose the league to Liverpool after being 14 pts ahead of them, it would be one of the biggest bottle jobs Premier League has ever seen. We still have everything in our own hands. But we need to shape up, and do it fast. We dont have any more lifelines left!
Don’t panic mate . More twists and turns to come yet in this race . Enjoy.

Absolutely bizarre to not replace Grealish with Sterling. Grealish is having no luck, Sterling or Jesus have that knack of being in the right place at the right time.
If Bernardo doesn’t inexplicably shit the bed from half a yard he gets a great assist.

Bernardo cost us tonight. Not Grealish.

I truly don`t understand some of the criticism towards the players as there was only one person who was responsible for an abject display and that must fall under our Managers decision to not change our system and players.
How the fuck was Foden, Rodri, Berno to name but a few, who really did warrant subbing at whatever minutes you want to discuss, stay on till the end.
Pep I love you and want your babies, but by fuck you can be stubborn and sorry I`ve forgotten our worst player in that first half by a country mile was Laporte and how he wasn`t changed for Ake is beyond any sane fans comprehension.
Thank fuck I`m only a fan and not a Manger !!!¬! ;)
