I'm on the train aswell, think you'd be very unlucky to miss the 9pm train.
I'm hoping to catch the 8.31pm and that's staying till the end of the match.
Brisk walk to Norwood junction, good number of trains to London bridge and tube to euston.
Might be a bit tight, but having done that route plenty of times already, I think its doable.
The 9 pm train should be doable, if all goes reasonably well. I still consider that 8.31 pm is very tight indeed.
Let's say the match is really over at 7.30 p.m., with added on time, and maybe a slightly late k.o. for the second half.
Everything's got to run perfectly smoothly, and even in best case scenario you're on your train at Euston with maybe two or three minutes to spare. Many, many's the time I've taken that train up to town. It can stop on the line for all sorts of reasons (most of which are never explained) — even a four-minute stop is going to put you out of kilter. Then, you have the factor that it is a
Saturday evening in London. It's not an afternoon match, still less a midday match. The tube is packed with people going out on the town. Going down corridors and stairs to get to your platform, getting off again, going up it all at Euston (one of the deepest of all the Northern Line stops) —
all takes more time that it would on almost any other day, at almost any other time. The Northern Line is one of the worst, one of the most backward, on the entire tube network for that kind of thing. Only morning rush hour from 7-9 on weekdays is worse. Then fighting your way across that concourse at Euston…
It's your lives, of course. You have to factor in what the worst case scenario is. If it's just a case of missing a train, and there's someone in London you can stay overnight with (or finding a hotel that doesn't cost an arm and a leg), then, hey, no big deal.
If on the other hand it's an intercontinental flight…
And I speak as someone who's missed a couple of flights within Europe over the decades, and one intercontinental flight from Paris to Tokyo (I was shitting bricks on that one)!
