Crystal Palace (h) post-match thread

Pep is building his second record-breaking team. One that is built on defence which is a change for him. You can see that he loves it. Dias is one of our best ever signings. It shouldn't be a surprise as he was captain of Benfica at 21 and is one of the best players in the Portugal team.
Imagine how far this team can go when we can get back in the stadium to support them. I have watched City since 1967/68 and this is the first time (apart from one season with Doyle and Watson) that we have been capable of winning games 1-0. This is a game-changer for us. We will now start winning European trophies.

One thing I remember when we played Barcelona and when I watched them play was how hard it was to create chances against them. I think Pep has always valued the defence but he did it a bit differently as he had exceptional players to implement it. For a while that worked here too but slowly savvy teams worked it out. Thankfully Pep has tweaked it in a way many of us hoped he would. Tighten the defence and our quality should always mean we score at least once, meaning we should win more than we lose without conceeding daft goals. The job is half done, once our forwards start flowing again we will be hard to stop.

Agree with this mate. Don’t forget that Ake, Laporte and Cancelo are all brilliant too. We haven’t even got a decent left back yet! Throw in the fact that we have a young squad with improvement in them and some great kids coming through the ranks.

It’s my lifelong dream to watch City win the champions league so it would be Typical City to do it in an empty stadium.
You are right. We haven't had a decent left back for years (perhaps Clichy) but tonight I thought Zin had his best game for three years. He worked really hard and he has a spirit that supports the other players, especially Foden. He is certainly technically weaker than the rest of the team but he has a strong character and brings something to the group. There is something special about this group of young players. Sterling is the same. He has been poor this season but he works his bollocks off and seems to bring the best out of his teammates. There is something happening with this team.

This. I actually think we were transitioning to this at the end of the 18/19 season, 14 games and only 4 conceded to end the season, quite a few of those games were 1/2-0 wins. I think pep realized that the 17/18 way of playing was never sustainable over multiple seasons, especially after teams gave up pressing us and Ederson on the ball. Unfortunately losing our best CB at the time for the season, losing our leader and best CB in Kompany AND missing out on our main CB target scarpered that transition a bit.

Now Dias is here, stones is fully bang in form and we are able to move ferna back into the DM role, we are seeing exactly the transition into how we are going to play from now on.

Zin has always taken pelters on here because he usually makes one significant and daft mistake every time he plays, but his attitude, commitment and character are always 100% imho.

it's natural to be a bit giddy after a game like that, but i am not getting carried away, and the more i read the "we're gonna win the lot" the more reluctant i become to join in. One thing i am sure of though, the champions league has never been so wide open, with the Spanish clubs in disarray, the Italian clubs likewise,
BM look strong but not the level they were, the rest definitely beatable....Pep's mantra will do for me, 'one game at a tine' .
