Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Pep is a genius so it’s a surprised he has never told the players after one half of a parked bus against one this poor teams>

“Right guys I don’t want you pushing up and playing I the opposition half!” “I want you to play in our half keep the ball and wait for the the runners to pass the ball”

Getting to the stage where I'm welcoming away matches more than the home ones, our last three home league performances have been piss poor, including the Burnley game

I thought he was taking too many touches on the ball when we were pressing for an equaliser in the later stages. He needed to move it on quicker before the space was closed. One of our better players out there today though.

That was the problem with all our players when we up against a park bus but that’s pep way “have that extra touch” and what we have won with him as our manager you can’t argue with!

Missing a striker obviously, as others have said. Someone to offer a penalty box presence/aerial threat and poaching ability.

Also could do with drive in centre midfield. A Yaya type of player, somebody to take the game by the scruff of the neck and even bully the opposition's midfielders. We haven't really had that since he stopped playing regularly.

We have players that offer different type of "drive" from midfield, Kevin's runs on the counter, Phil's direct running and Gundo's frank Lampard like ability of drifting into the box during a slow build-up and scoring. But we still don't have anyone with the physicality or that has all of what Yaya had.

And both are the types of player that Pep is unlikely to buy or pick to start regularly.
He does seem to look down his nose at pace, physicality and aerial abilty these days, as if they aren’t perfectly valid parts of the game.
A well balanced squad would have most if not all options covered.

Drop Kev start Gundogan. Foden can drop deep from the false nine or wing and Ilkay can push up to get into positions to score.

Should give more options for the midfield to move the ball quicker, and can more adaptable against teams squeezing the space in the midfield.
Not in my opinion, we shouldn’t be starting either of Kev or Gundo at the moment, we need what pace and energy we have to be on the pitch - front 5 should be Phil, Grealish, Bernie, Jesus and Mahrez.

Last few games it feels like the weight of expectation on Foden is dragging him down.

Due to KDB and Sterling's demise , on-form he's our most creative player.

Hopefully the others step-up, if not how did we get to this situation where we rely so heavily on a 21 year old?

Abysmal player recruitment over the past three years, and our failure to keep Leroy Sane. It's going to bite us very hard next season if we don't buy well in January and next summer.

He hasn’t yet got the experience to carry the rest of the team and, as you say, gets dragged down with them. There will come the day though in the near future…
With Kev out of sorts I wonder if it would be better to give Kev a good few weeks rest and put either Grealish or Foden in his place. They can also freely swap positions, to give the opposition something to think about.

We won't be signing anyone in January mate, infact I'm not even sure we'll sign a striker next summer. Doesn't seem to be a desperate need for one from the top brass at City
