Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

there's not only Kane on the market, we could afford 100 million on a midfielder we didn't really need. But in reality we needed a forward desperately. The CL final and CS showed you that.
How do you know we didn’t try for someone else?

look we are not invincible and at times we are brickle even at home
again the whole team did not turn up and when we go 1 down its a hard long day

the ref was shocking as normal and like on bluemoon this week we talked about time wasting and why the keeper is not being punished and give a yellow ? but like today it was in the 85th minute and far to late to stop him doing it

i don't know why but i get the feeling this squad are on its last legs and even the manager will be looking for the door
if we some how win the champions league ? will we sign a striker in the winter window or just wait for the summer and see where we are with the manager and squad

We have no control in midfield, and I never thought I'd say that about a Pep side.

KDB is just a mess at the moment, can barely get the ball under control and Bernardo just doesn't create or control with the ball - he's amazing in big games when we need to press and defend, but he simply doesn't put his foot on the ball and control possession like David Silva, like Gundogan - like Foden when he plays there.

We've got a 3 man midfield and the only person taking the ball and looking for a pass is Rodri.
Rodri was quality again today, he is becoming a big player for us.

Too many players didn’t play well today. KDB looks to have lost what he had in spades, his passing was woeful, Laporte as poor as I have seen him. Looks to slow and seems to have a rick in him at the moment. Cancello , fucking hell he was poor and Jack Grealish‘s form seems to have fallen of a cliff, someone needs to tell him that he doesn’t need to touch the ball five times before he off loads it.

Oh ffs arteta had nothing to fucking do with it. Pep didn’t have arteta at Bayern and barca and he played the same way. What hurt is was when sane left and wr never replaced him with someone that has pace and can run at defenses. Sane and sterling were tearing the wings up and when sane left our attack/counter has slowed down a lot.
How have you managed this haha. I never said that...

Not going to comment on the second half because everything has to have 10 men factored into it, all I'll say about that half is we didn't lose a forward player for the entire game, the gaps were at the back, I was satisfied with our intent after the disallowed goal though.

I said pre match that lineup can present us with a problem of having too many players doing the same thing in the same areas and unfortunately that's what we got. There's no diversity in our game right now, it's one move over and over and if it doesn't work we rely on a defensive mistake or a moment of genius otherwise we don't score, were making distinctly average sides look like solid units. we need another Fernandinho intervention here and the play to drastically change before it gets irrepairable as this will not be the last time we drop points against mediocre sides.

Just home from the game. I can’t think of a lot of positives to take away from that. Palace played us very well. The pressed high up the field and gave us no room to play football. We misplaced several early passes and started to get frustrated.

Laporte just had one of those days, KDB is seriously out of sorts and, here’s where I get controversial, Grealish looks like a luxury we could have done without. Playing him and Jesus wide with Foden through the middle just isn’t working against teams that stifle us.

That was possibly one of the worst refereeing displays I’ve seen. Andre Marriner is definitely not fit for purpose.

This was a typical Marriner performance in our games he’s done -usually we get the result anyway but a mix of ineptitude, bad luck and a couple of Laporte brain farts meant he was able to get the job done today
We always have to be so much better than we played today so that we can beat teams like Palace, and that is 100% because of the likes of Marriner and the rest of the bent PiGMOL mob.

Horrendous journey to the game, queuing for ages to get in at the turnstiles, cannot get away now because of traffic, the whole experience, utter utter shite.

Let's not become one of those fan bases that feel entitled to blow every opponent off the park. We lost simple as that, we'll get over it and maybe for some players it will be a reminder that no game should be taken for granted. I can't remember a game where we lost nearly every 50/50 challenge.

Credit must go to the pressing of Palace although for me it is hard to applaud any team that starts wasting time from the 6th minute. I also thought Zaha was disgraceful and spent the entire game trying to get players in trouble. The ref should have booked their keeper earlier but to be fair Kyle also took about 30 seconds to take a throw in stoppage time of the first half. We must definitely look at playing at a higher tempo especially when we face a team with 10 behind the ball most of the time.

In conclusion it was a poor result but we've been here before and there is no way we don't respond to this. Keep the faith blues it will be sorted.
