Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Well that was dreadful.
We’ve turned into Wenger’s Arsenal.
sideways, sideways, trying to walk it in.
we only started actually playing when we went down to 10 men (idiot Laporte)
Now the ref, the cheating fuckwit.
In nearly 40 years of watching football I’ve never seen a referee warn a goal keeper so much without booking him for time wasting.
After he’d waved him on about 30 times, then only to wave him on 3 times for one goal kick and still not book him. Corrupt ****.
We all knew he’d give him the usual token booking at 80 minutes plus.
disgraceful.
honestly didn’t deserve anything after that performance.
Far too many players out of form at the minute, add to that players like Cancelo having an absolute shocker after being so good recently.
annoyed under sells it slightly.

look we are not invincible and at times we are brickle even at home
again the whole team did not turn up and when we go 1 down its a hard long day

the ref was shocking as normal and like on bluemoon this week we talked about time wasting and why the keeper is not being punished and give a yellow ? but like today it was in the 85th minute and far to late to stop him doing it

i don't know why but i get the feeling this squad are on its last legs and even the manager will be looking for the door
if we some how win the champions league ? will we sign a striker in the winter window or just wait for the summer and see where we are with the manager and squad
This squad on it's last legs, what in the name of fuck are you on about.

Any striker will still struggle to score when team have 9 players in the penalty area they cut off all shots blocks the lot!

I freeze framed the game when Grealish had the ball in there penalty area they had 3 on him blocking all angles then the other 6 were blocking all other angles! Teams set up that way against us all the time!
Its because we are so slow when we attack that they have all the time they need to get in the right positions. Teams have played the same way against us for years, and we have never had any problems creating chances before. Something is not right at the moment..

I'll get accused of going OTT with this, but I'm entitled to an opinion.

We won't won a trophy this season, we'll finish top 4 but that'll be our lot (and NO I'm not a Rag/Dipper/Chav - I'm a realist)

We have fallen through the same trap door again - we needed to refresh (Pep said so himself). Instead we signed Grealish, he'll take time to adjust, and did nothing else.

We also have some bang out of form players who, for a variety of reasons, we can't seem to get back to any sort of form.

Just my opinion

I’m calming down a little bit now! I wouldn’t say that we were that bad a team today. After Laporte got sent off (which has been an accident waiting to happen unfortunately but I guess I would say that as John Boy’s most ardent fan!) we were terrified of going near them. When John Boy did come on I felt there was a lot more energy and there was one pass where he took the ball from the opposition player and turned with it before said opponent had even noticed it was gone that left us gasping! Brilliant.

Ok, ok I’m biased but it WAS excellent.

Let's not become one of those fan bases that feel entitled to blow every opponent off the park. We lost simple as that, we'll get over it and maybe for some players it will be a reminder that no game should be taken for granted. I can't remember a game where we lost nearly every 50/50 challenge.

Credit must go to the pressing of Palace although for me it is hard to applaud any team that starts wasting time from the 6th minute. I also thought Zaha was disgraceful and spent the entire game trying to get players in trouble. The ref should have booked their keeper earlier but to be fair Kyle also took about 30 seconds to take a throw in stoppage time of the first half. We must definitely look at playing at a higher tempo especially when we face a team with 10 behind the ball most of the time.

In conclusion it was a poor result but we've been here before and there is no way we don't respond to this. Keep the faith blues it will be sorted.

spot on matey

every hates losing but we must take a deep breath and remember this is manchester city and not a glory hunting scum that play in red. today was a hard watch and sometimes you can feel it happening and we got done over today

we go again in midweek and maybe the derby now is a big game for us and not united and we turn up

The worrying thing is that apart from the first, complacent, leave it everyone else, 10 mins, we didn't play that badly and still couldn't lay a glove on Crystal Palace! Ok the ref and his bent cohorts helped, but still.

On paper Utd are much better than palace & West Ham. They will certainly have more attacking power. Just hope pep sets us up right that was our problem today

Conversely, three or four more "performances" (very loose definition of the word) like that, and you can forget the league. Chelsea are unlikely to drop 20 - 30 points this season. Which is what we'll need them to do if we serve up too many more displays like that.
Maybe, of course there may not be 3 or 4 more performances like this. I always feel like a lot is decided and demonstrated in the fixtures between the title contenders and we have done OK on that premise so far.

- Fair play to Palace, it was a mature away performance and Viera is shaping up to be a decent manager.

- I can't remember many worse performances Kev has had for us. His first touch was atrocious today.

- Grealish and Foden were both poor.

- Pretty worrying given that is currently out best 11, and they struggled from the first minute.

- Lads. I think we might need a striker.

- That stat about games we'e not scored in compared to last season is pretty damning.

- Ref had a terrible, terrible game today. Didn't get hold of anything, let them take the piss all day.

- Advantage Chelsea, I suppose.

Last legs? That was the same line up that we had against liverpool and Chelsea and how it finished v PSG and we played some breathtaking football - as we did v Brighton for 70mins - in those matches. Says more about the challenge of a dodgy ref and a very well organised low block team with a game plan. No idea how we get round those teams, but just a hunch it doesn’t suit Kev at the moment.

Didn't think Grealish and Foden were poor, but yep, spot on.

Grealish great at retaining possession, completely toothless in danger areas

Ffs there is page after page on the rags crying after a loss. Some on here are fucking fannies. We lost to the team that took their chances. We wasnt at the races today and we cannot win the league every fucking season. . I'm not being defeatist as I know if any team can go on a run its us. We have shown the top teams this season how to play . We are not out of it. People dont realise how many fucking games our players play in every competition or tournaments. They will have off days. We have been the top team in England for the last 12 years. I cant see that changing any time soon.

If we put in a half arsed performance, we’ll get beat.
If pep has one of his brain farts and sets us up in a crazy way, we’ll get beat.

Play anywhere near our potential with all players putting a minimum 70% effort it and we’ll win.....comfortably
