It's been a slow to start to Mahrez's City career, but I'm still confident he'll come good. There have been glimpses of what he's capable of, but he just needs to be a bit more consistent. That's a discussion for the Mahrez thread I guess. Don't think he'll start tomorrow anyway - fully expect to see Sane and Sterling out wide.

If we fail to win the League, it will have more to the excellence of the eventual winners and the collective inabilities of our squad in a number of games, rather than one missed penalty. However, it will needless be cited as evidence by those who have already made their minds up on Mahrez.

I think we've all learned - courtesy of Raz and Bernie for starters - not to judge any player in his first season under Pep, but I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't distinctly underwhelmed by Mahrez thus far. He slows everything down, sets off on his dribbles infield, does a step over or two, and either gets muscled out of contention or forced back towards the corner flag, or cuts inside and ends up banging it all the way back to Stones or Ferna. Furthermore, the kind of chances (easy and difficult) that he used to plant in the corner of the net like clockwork at Leicester, are going begging at City with fairly monotonous regularity. You can see he's got bags of skill, and some of his first touches from long diagonal passes have been exquisite, but as things stand at the moment he lacks the dynamism to play in this team IMO

Good assessment but he has scored 5 goals and as you say he's got more to give

Agree with this ,was expecting a lot more of him, showing off skills, dribbling past defenders etc...He totally killed us in one game back in the season they won the title.

Absolutely spot on. They already have their scapegoat should we fall short this year and will not for once think

a) there was a better team who deserved it over 38 games
b) dropped points in other games

Again, and moreso with Danilo nearing fitness, it’s totally useless to worry about the starting 11. Why would we. With so many games piling up in December and January my guess is all squad players will more or less spend the same minutes on the pitch.

And what is all the Mahrez bashing coming from. Like it or not but it’s a big step from Leicester to us and especially the way we play under Pep. Most of our players needed a full season to get going. Is it his 60 million price tag? How has that made a player better? He has shown enough signs to think he will definitely add to the class we already poses.

I like to think it’ll be another home game where we have all the possession and I expect us to win this one. It’s hard to think otherwise nowadays.

PEP Yeah of course (we have weaknesses), any team has strong and weak points. That’s normal. These kind of a comments are in perspective.

PEP We will adapt to (Christmas) calendar. Previous years we had just a few days, this year it is three or four days. It is what it is. We are going to train, we have to.
