Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Just got back.

That VAR decision was cowardice, pure and simple.
Palace are a more refined version of Wimbledon from the 80’s.
It really is time we make a player ‘suffering’ a head injury go to the dressing room for a proper concussion test and not allow them back on the pitch for a set assessment period.
If we want to create real, dangerous width, it’s time to stop the fucking experiment with midfielders playing as inverted full backs and go and buy two real full backs.
I dunno what was going on between Haarland and Marmoush for the pen and I don’t care. We should be making all our forward practice penalties until they’re begging to stop.

I can't deny, I'm pleased for Palace. For their fans it's massive and they will be celebrating it for years to come.
Your fellas will be back next year winning trophies, no big loss really given your recent successes.from the short time I've been on this forum and my trip to Manchester, your Fans seem solid to me, don't think you'd begrudge them their moment.

I’d be pointing the fuck to where I needed the wide man to go if I kept getting they inside ball…
At the very least it would separate the fullback a bit…
That's the thing isn't it we aren't moving the wing backs about because we have nobody overlapping our wide man, Nor are we pulling centre backs out of position because Haaland rarely ever makes a move towards the ball not to mention we don't have a midfielder that runs in beyond Haaland to cause other problems...

It's too static, Very pedestrian and far too slow moving the ball...Our players are taking so many touches on the ball and its far too easy for the opposition to defend against.

Got back to Hollinwood at 9:40pm. 3 hours, No traffic. Left 103 on final whistle, straight into blue car park and away.

This team have done us proud, won everything, were the best team on the planet; incredible record breaking team; however now there seems to be one word for me… STALE! The team has gone stale, past it’s sell by date and needs a total refresh in personnel and playing style.

Yes we were done out of what would have been a clear advantage… I believe they just didn’t want to send a keeper off in a cup final. All this direction of the ball meant it wasn’t direct goal scoring opportunity is totally irrelevant. If a keeper deliberately handballs outside his area it’s always been a red card, when did this change.

However, what the fuck was going on with the pen? Haaland had it, they reviewed it and then Marmoush had the honour. What a horrible penalty. The stats of this game are ridiculous, so much possession, so many shots and we didn’t score. Clueless, toothless, weak up front.

Savinho is a waster, he needs to vastly improve and quickly. Akanji again repeatedly caught napping and slow to react for the goal. Why after being out so long was he shoe horned back in. I’m sorry, I’ve never been a fan of his, always at the scene of the crime. Kushanov has gone from player of the month, to persona non grata. Gvardiol, so many mistakes today, particularly in possession. Who was supposed to be left back, Josko or Nico?
Dias another one, playing walking football. Kev and Bernardo, it’s sad to see them huffing and puffing but creating nothing much. Marmoush and Haaland clueless. Doku tried, but nothing produced.

The midfield had no bite at all, I was surprised that Nunes and Kovacic weren’t brought on, as opposed to Foden and Gundogan; what has happened to Phil? The one positive today was Echeverri and what on earth have Grealish and Gonzalez done to deserve exclusion. And finally Pep, they say a team plays in the image of the manager, has Pep gone STALE too? Our pass, pass, pass tactics certainly have. Too often we look to pass rather than shoot. Young Nico TWICE had the opportunity to shoot with his right foot, but chose to dilly dally trying to get it on his left foot and fucked the chances up; one of them was a great chance.

They owe us a huge performance on Tuesday, because any hangover from today, any repetition of today’s performance and it will be curtains. So frustrating today. Can’t wait for this season to be over.

Just listen to a right twat on 606 wanting Pep out and replacing him with Klopp or arteta. He said he was a City fan, but clearly a rag in disguise.

Still can’t get over the VAR decision. Disgusting. Didn’t think we played badly but obviously lacked a cutting edge and should have scored from the spot.

Who didn't see that coming? I felt like most of the players played fairly well in truth, poor performances weren't the problem or the reason we lost, the big problem was once again the gameplan.

Somebody tell me what the plan is when we control games like that? What's the route to goal because the players sure don't know. They all look for somebody else to do something and the only likely route through is an unlikely moment of individual brilliance, relying on that is never going to win you trophies.

You won't see a more stacked attacking lineup than the one that included doku, savinho, kdb, marmoush behind haaland so the failure to score is down to the tactics.

perhaps it's just thr disappointment of today but I'm anticipating a proper capitulation now and throwing away CL football next season. Pep isn't going to change anything tactically and so the personnel doesn't matter as they'll all be aiming to do the same thing.
The reason you can't work it out is the reason you're not world class football coaches. There will always be teams who park the bus against top sides. They'll never win the league or come remotely close, but they'll get away with it now and again in matches like this, always have, always will.

We're the only team on the PL who hasn't lost a match in the last 6 (not counting this cup final obviously), but as usual, a couple of bad results and for many on here you would think we were about to be relegated.

There's a reason we're above Bournemouth and Fulham in the table and no reason to believe we won't get the points we need.

It’s fantastic for Palace - I go back to 2011 and how I felt seeing us beat stoke… their fans were immense today and despite being gutted if it was anyone but city I’d be over the moon for them

I still can’t get my head around the red card and Haaland not taking the penalty. But neither is an excuse.

They probably don't care anyway. Opening a pay cheque with a 6 figure sum attached softens the blow.
You're probably right. They didn't care enough to get us to the cup final or to battle back for at least a chance of CL qualification when it was looking like we had little chance at one stage.

Absolutely fucked off with today and the whole season tbqh, nobody can be surprised that we lost after last Saturdays shambles at Southampton. That should've been a huge warning sign to our top brass that this current squad is simply not good enough. I'm starting to think we need a fresh start from the top as well, Pep has taken us as far as possible and it's now come to a shuddering halt. He's been shit this season allowed the players to coast, not good enough. Thanks for everything, the best manager we have ever had but fresh ideas are needed

100% agree, and I wish some of those idiots would get it into their heads that NO ENGLISH CLUB has EVER done what we have done. 4 consecutive titles, domestic treble, EU treble, 7 consecutive FAC semi finals, 100 goals, 100 points, all the individual player records and so on, and so on...

You cannot have the number of injuries that were have had and expect the same results as we would have most likely had if everybody had been fully fit for most of the season. We had something like 11 squad players out at one point. That's an entire team. It's not an excuse, it's basic common sense. If you're under par you're more likely to lose, and if you're under strength for the next match you're likely to lose that one too, and the next one, and the next. That's exactly what happened.

Today we didn't do a lot wrong but when you're facing teams that park the bus it's going to work for them sometimes. It worked for Southampton last week, it worked for Palace today and you'll always get results like this for as long as the game exists. No club will ever win the title playing that way but they might win the odd important match and so it was today.
We're not expecting the same results. We know what we are with the injuries and the squad we have. We cannot and do not have the creativity to unlock these defenses with the current crop.

We are suggesting we try something other than death by passing. Teams are happy to draw. Palace were probably happy to draw and take it to pens. The hit us on the break. With some poor defending and lack of concentration, slow at reading the game etc. And then they'd done their job. They have something more to hold onto. They've a chance of becoming a legacy for Palace today and we allowed them that.

With the turgid stuff we played today. Southampton was a rehearsal for today and we failed at both. If pep can't see it then I don't know what else to say.

I don't want us turning into the dippers. But if he does uphold his 1 more year and plays the same way and we still produce lacklustre, passion less performances then people will turn on him wether he's won all he has with us. And that's out of frustration. Because we know our current limitations, and for whatever reason pep can't see them. He's blinkered by his trusted players who've performed week in week out in the 4 in a row and treble seasons. And it's stalled our progress and hindered us. When we should have been in for olmo, and some of the psg players they managed to scoop up. And look at them. On the verge of winning the champs league.

Kvaratskhelia, doue, and mendes for less than what we splurged in January.

Imagine the first 2 whipping crosses in of decent quality, or cutting inside and firing one across the keeper.

The missed sending off has stuck in my craw. I am sorry Palace you didn't deserve that
