Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

We play awful football. Win or lose the last 15 months have been shit. Football is entertainment.

Given the new "didn't want to spoil the game ruling", can someone explain which games can be spoiled with the correct waving of a red card and which games are deemed too important. I can see why a cup final is important, but the game is run by the broadcasters and Sky in particular will believe their precious PL games should also escape the correct application of the laws.

Different game if Twatwell and VAR decided to apply the laws of the game instead of overriding it for the TV spectacle.
In the past the blatant corruption and cheating has failed to stop us because we were that good we could override it, now, with our regression due to numerous reasons, we need the correct rules to be applied. Today the authorities finally got their revenge.

Stayed up till stupid o'clock watching that. Just got up from 5 hours sleep feel like shit :(
Absolutely gutted we lost, I'm grateful to Pep for getting us to another final but surely this loss puts the last nail in the possession football coffin ?

Another game when all that possession mattered for nothing. How many times have we lost in this way. Lesser teams have worked out how to beat us.

If Pep stays he surely must change his tactics.
Nowt wrong with the possession football. Just need better players executing it.

Just can't believe how bad that was. A lot of people will be singing Henderson's praises for the saves he made but were any of them that good? A lot of them were just routine saves and Marmoush's penalty was whatever. At the end of the day, we didn't create anywhere near enough quality chances, spent the entire game huffing and puffing, and played right into Palace's hands. We gave them the exact game they wanted.

Pep finally, finally stumbled on a weird formation that allowed these players to work well together. We had a settled back four with Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, and O'Reilly, Bernardo and Kovacic in between, and then a combination of players not involving Haaland up front. What does he do today? Oh, change the back four, play a midfield with a massive hole in it, and shoves Haaland back in because eh why the fuck not.

We completely threw it all away. Palace deserved it and they didn't even have to play particularly well. We used to wear teams out by moving the ball quickly, pulling them around. Now we just play it slowly around the box while the opposition defenders stand in position. And when we do get into a position to shoot we keep looking for the pass. It's all instruction - instruction from a man who is sadly beginning to head over the hill.

I said before the final that an FA Cup win and a top four finish would be a nice way to send Pep off with his head held high. Now it's become a pressing issue. We're looking at the next 5-10 years here and Pep isn't going to be here for all of it. I say bite the bullet now, get Inzaghi or Xavi on the phone, or Enrique if PSG lose the final, and let them they know they've got £300m to spend to start us on the road to recovery.

Definite penalty and the 10 mins was justified.
Just made it home from the pub. I live very near Palace. Their fans are understandably giddy. I’m the only blue they have met all day (or ever). Every single one of them mentioned the Henderson handball.. and said they got away with one. Weirdly they all thought we battered them (I guess that’s what stress does) but fuck me it’s nice to see a pub full of supporters celebrating like that. Honestly the place was electric. They’ll probably not win anything for another 50 years. Let them enjoy it. VAR is VAR a joke. Reminded me of 2011 for us.. they were literally crying in the pub.

Very disappointing.

I was concerned as soon as I saw the team and saw Kovacic wasn’t playing as he’s been a key cog of the recent good form.

Then when I saw Doku, Savinho & Marmoush were all starting together I was genuinely confused. I’m not quite sure how Savinho had earned the opportunity to start in a cup final, especially when he’s not even played much during a good run.

We were basically playing a line up that was new and different to what had been working.

They bottled it. Didn’t want to ‘spoil the game’. Would he have been the first keeper to be red carded in the final? Can’t remember another. The direction the ball took is a red herring. The offence reviewed should not have been ‘was it denying a direct Goal scoring opportunity’, the offence reviewed should have been simply…. ‘Did Henderson handle the ball outside of his area’ and as he clearly did, it was an obvious, easy red card. However, for some bizarre reason they decided no offence was committed.
Tbf it’s not that no offence was committed. They can only intervene if it’s a red card decision or a penalty to be given. They can’t give a free kick unless it’s a red.

I can’t see how it isn’t a goal scoring opportunity though. The keeper was the final man. Should have been a red card and free kick in my book.

But we should have been better and won the game regardless of that.

We had 80% possession. But we didn't batter them. They were mostly comfortably out of control

Do you think the system only works with the very best players? It’s an interesting one. Because we don’t have the very best players at the moment. So should we adapt the startle because of that?

NB. I don’t think Pep ever would adapt to that.

I dont really understand why people are upset marmoush took the penalty and not haaland given that it was a perfectly good penalty and just an amazing save.
