Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

I'd say we got what we deserved yesterday, and to a large degree something that many expected.
We have been shot-shy and lacking penetration all season.
The play has been too slow and horizontal, which most teams can now cope with. We don't make the most of our key asset,:
A very big striker who likes to play in the space behind defenders. Pep must find a solution to this conundrum as the need for control is resulting in facing a low block every week and the wrong players being allowed possession by the opposition.

Good luck to Palace who played with a plan and executed this really well.
They had a togetherness we lack as a club too.
Their support was also infinitely better than ours, full of verve and unity. One loud chant on the go and a coordinated approach.
Compare that to our sporadic and desperate approach. There was only going to be one winner and it wasn't City sadly
"The wrong players being allowed possession by the opposition" has been a factor for too long. It makes life easier for the opponents to double-up on potential receivers, It also highlights the futility of possession stats. Samo samo, every game, the harmless and tedious to-ing and fro-ing on the halfway line with the ever-present chance of a cockup leading to a goal against should have been eliminated by now, yet no sign it is even seen as a problem. As things stand, qualifying for the champs league is purely a financial bonus, no way on earth we will be successful on the pitch, and likely swept aside by teams more adapted to modern football. The return of Rodri is not going to fix everything, no player could do that.

It's why we need a whole new reset of our style of play throughout the whole age groups. It's boring and stale now, new management and fresh ideas needed

The posts on here lately, ffs.

The most successful manager of the last decade and you want rid because of one season we don't win anything.

Thankfully those at the club are more level headed that than the reactionaries on here.

Posters on here are behaving more and more like real madrid fans who want rid of everything and everyone the moment things don't go well, no matter how much recent success they've had.

May be wrong, but I think the referee could have changed his mind to a yellow and a free kick if VAR had recommended a DOGSO red card but he maintained his original decision.

Anyone confirm that's how it could work?
When an ex Palace youth player is Assistant VAR nothing was ever going to be given.
This is the same twat who was linesman when Attwell allowed that joke of a goal to stand at The Swamp during the treble season.
Had this happened at the other end, Ortega would have been off.

Didn’t want to post in here last night as wanted to digest but i think Pep needs to to go and it’s really tough to say that.

He has become desperate and unpredictable with his team selections and tactics.

I also think Khusanov and Nico G have been treated really poorly.

The team selection yesterday meant we couldn’t change anything from the bench. And the actions on the pitch at the end were embarrassing.

I can't wait until next season when Pep rams posts like this down your throats.

The most successful manager of the last decade and you want rid because of one down season. smh.

Odd game. In many respects the game plan worked. We should've/could've scored 2 or 3. That's before we discuss the obvious red card that wasn't given. But still it feels like the season in a microcosm too. No luck, lack of real killer quality in the final third, and being punished for every little mistake with a swinging hammer.

It would be odd if he can discipline a player without penalising the offence. Odd but not completely unsurprising .....

I don’t think there’s a precedent for it, can’t remember ever actually seeing it before where the fouls not been given, there’s been a red card review from VAR and the ref then issuing a yellow.

A more obviously bent case of officiating as yesterday's would be difficult to beat.
Previously, we've been too good for it to curtail us. Now, however, we need the rules applied correctly.

You leave @BlueHammer85 and his life choices out of this ......

Palace fans we're top notch in Wembley (City take note), nice bunch to chat with too, glad they finally won something even though at our expense. City however, need some direction, Pep, take a shit or get off the pot, some A* names needed urgently to lift the club again.

Pep is accountable for his decisions, the success of the past means nothing in the here and now, as it stands his tenure is going to end very soon, do we do one rebuild or two, that's not been critical it's the situation we find ourselves in. The recruitment has been woeful for too long now alongside the departure of arguably better players from within. Fans paid hundreds of pounds yesterday and thousands throughout the season we are entitled to objectively have opinions.

Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.

Relatively neutral here, A TEAM beat a collection of individuals yesterday. There's a photo on facebook of Foden, his Mrs and one of his son's all glammed up for some event or other. Doubt there's similar of Palace players. Too much
celebrity status, has it all gone to there heads?
However VAR's decision was based on the ball direction I.e. going away from goal not the Haaland did not have the ball under control. The reason the ball was going away from goal was because Henderson directed it there.

Couldn't agree less. Anyone can have a bad season, and come back from it. And we'd be foolish to write off anyone for having a down season after the successes we've had.

I think people underestimate how difficult it is to perform at a high level week in week out for as long as we have done. A downturn was inevitable (and in some ways necessary).

Last two games: 199 minutes, 49 shots, 0 goals...
Of those 49 shots, how many resulted in a brilliant save from a keeper?

Henderson guessed right for the pen and it then became an easy save for a keeper. He tipped one over from Doku but one you'd expect a PL keeper to make. I can't think of any others yesterday or last week that warranted a goal against anything other than an under 9 keeper.

Remember the good old days of Sane or Sterling squaring to the other for a tap in.

Their explanation was embarrassing. Says a lot when even Rooney is calling the statement nonsense and for them just to admit the mistake and saying it was 100% a red card. Ive never seen a keeper handle outside the box before and not get a red. Once again different rules for us.
Wish the club would call it out
