Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Well played Palace. You deserved the win. City had the chances to equalise and win the game but fluffed it. I've gone from miffed yesterday to mild acceptance today and I'm actually pleased for the Palace fans. That's because I remember Citys 1st trophy in recent times...the fa cup in 2011. I remember going for a walk after & thinking god we've done it. For 42years I had been telling every Utd fan who goaded me that before I die City will win something. I haven’t forgotten where I've come from and of course being a blue I hope we win everything every season. But it's unrealistic. Referee mistakes, injuries & competition from others make it so. Anyway well done Palace and I hope the fans have a great big party because that's what City did and its nice to see others getting on as well as seeing my own club grow and be successful.
Referee "mistakes", well done, great big party, nice to see......
How lovely. Needless to say I'm not at that stage, probably never will be. My loss I'm sure.

Criminal officiating.

Bit of play acting from Palace but cannot really resent it as we did not do enough to win.

Not confident that we can win our remaining two games and this daft Club World Cup can get in the bin.

TBF if you are talking about Guehi and Wharton going down injured, let me update you, Wharton missed the presentation as he was in hospital having a concussion assessment. Guehi is out for rest of season with suspected fractured eye socket.
I would be miffed about the Henderson decision but to say worst ever decision is stretching it, you should see the decisions we endure week in week out. Thought Pep and your medics behaviour left a lot to be desired tbh.
Not here to gloat, how could I our first ever trophy compared to your fantastic record. Best of luck for rest of season I am sure this season is just a blip

The posts on here lately, ffs.

The most successful manager of the last decade and you want rid because of one season we don't anything.

Thankfully those at the club or more level headed that than the reactionaries on here.

Posters on here are behaving more and more like real madrid fans who want rid of everything and everyone the moment things don't go well, no matter how much recent success they've had.
Be careful of what some wish for. One could lose a manager who brought success upon success and with a new manager never quite reach the same heights again.
Pep is more of league manager not a knockout specialist like Ancellotti et al. A new squad will invigorate everything

That kind of football from palace should not be encouraged, how anyone can say they were a credit is beyond me.
Ridiculous comment.
This has always been part of football.
Hell go watch some Italian football from the 80s or 90s.
Watch Inters treble winning team from 2010.

There's more the one way of playing football and if the inventors of the game wanted victory to be awarded on possession and sideways passes, the laws of the game would have been written that way.

This is sour grapes from the richest team in world football with a possession style manager. We don't get to tell teams how to play football. This kind of comment that makes us look like entitled pricks.

They played us beautifully, because they played a legal style of play we obviously can't cope with despite our resources.

Their job isn't to go toe to toe playing our style of football, it's to make us uncomfortable and to win their game, and they did.

Unfortunately can't down vote.

That sounds nasty, hope they recover soon.
Congrats on your trophy.
The Henderson decision was utterly awful, but no excuses, and would rather lose after a decision like that against you rather than some of the other clubs we hate most.

Exactly that.

The greatest manager of his generation is offering to rebuild our team when it is clear it needs rebuilding. Who else is available trust to do the job better?
Managers are only the "greatest of their generation" until they aren't anymore.

Jose was still considered amongst the greatest managers of his generation when he took on the project of rebuilding United. We know how that went.

The evidence showing that holding onto a manager too long makes the rebuild even harder is all around us. United, Arsenal. Inevitably there is going to be a right time for the club to make this decision.

The question should be asked about exactly how he plans to achieve it given our current team and not just answer with happy clappers legacy answers.

I don't believe we will return to our former heights with both Haaland and Pep together.
There is a fundamental incompatibility that despite our treble in the first year with Haaland really papered over that.

Absolutely ,one mediocre season with mitigating circumstances. Should we be poor next season that's a different debate but a rebuild will address the issues.
Be careful what you wish for and for those advocating a change, who on earth is a decent candidate.

Well done to Palace deserved winners .
Your manager did say to Pg they would beat us if we met in the final ,so he was warned .
Your fans create a great atmosphere where ever they go & are a credit to the game.
Enjoy the celebrations & parade .

Don’t see why we should let it go also Sue Rooney for libel after his comments yesterday fucking rag Scouse wanker

In terms of changing the game or result, it's done and dusted

VAR fucked up big time and they knew it, But Pep and City will let it go and say nothing and the same thing will happen again and again, when is enough, will it take losing out of the top 5 places before Pep and City call them out

Thank you, it’s been a long wait since my first game in 1961. I would like to say first of many but unfortunately I’m not sure

Not 100%, they deserved to win, because the match officials had a major hand in the result

But well done to Palace, it will mean the world to their fans to win a major trophy

The game summed up our entire season yesterday.

We look absolutely devoid of any effort and just want to play a slow, easy to read, dreadfully boring posession based game when it's abundantly clear that it's been found out. Palace had a game plan yesterday and they executed it brilliantly and fair play to them. They knew they'd get the counter, knew they'd get a chance and we didn't disappoint - the old 'one shot, one goal' undoing us again and another to file with so many other games over the seasons. It is truly staggering how many times we fall for it.

One thing I did wonder is why we didn't just let Palace have the ball for a few minutes, sit deep and counter them. WIn the ball, pass to KdB to play it long for Haaland/Marmoush/Doku/Savinho to get onto - they would terrify any team but it's hard for them if they have 10 players in front of them whilst Dias is busy passing it to and from Akanji.

If there was a defining moment of the season it was Haaland giving the ball to Marmoush for the penalty. Any striker with anything about him, snatches that ball and smashed into the net. Haaland was cowardly for that but it summed up his game to be honest. I've said it before, he is the best striker I've ever seen but he's clearly in the wrong team. We have to make a decision about him soon and I suspect that decision is bound up with any decision we make on Pep too. Games like yesterday should be decided by Haaland - we brought him in to put the chances away but at the moment we can't create chances and he just sits close to their defenders anyway. As stupid as it sounds, I did wonder if we'd be any better or worse with Mateta in our side. How mad is that when Haaland's numbers are insanely good?

We've completely lost our attacking sense of play and if this continues into the WCC or next season, we will be heading to the same bracket as Spurs and United. That might sound crazy but you'd never imagine either of those teams where they are 2 seasons ago.

Pep needs a break now from this season but he's unlikely to get one. The club have to decide whether he has the ideas, energy and passion to go to the end of his contract. If I'm completely honest, I think he's burnt out. He's frustrated and it's sad to see him this way. Without any question he's the most revolutionary manager the PL have ever had and his list of revolutions can't even be matched by Wenger, Fergie, Clough, Mercer, Revie all put together.

However, his style of football needs to change. He needs to think about his style and trying to bring in some of the directness from his old adversary - Klopp. If Pep can find a blend of possession and directness then I think he will get the best out of Haaland, and smash teams. If he continues to ignore the opposition then he risks a humiliating end to his City career I'm afraid and he certainly does not deserve that.

I can't wait for this season to finish and I'm sure the club feel the same. We need to bring in some new blood and some top class players. The club should be looking at Huijsen and Wirtz and moving fast and hard for that calibre of player.

Overall, a depressing day but well done to Palace. I hope their fans enjoy it.
