Crystal Palace PL (H) Post match thread

Pep obviously doesn’t fancy most of our bench right now. Players on the pitch struggling to close out matches.
He has to drain the bench.
He doesn't fancy the bench because they aren't good enough to play v Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. But we were playing Crystal palace FFS. If they aren't good enough to play against a Palace side that had settled for a 0-2 defeat until we handed them a draw then they shouldn't be at the club.

Two most frustrating points:

75% possession - tie game
Substitutions: none (until it was too late)

I don't want to be overly critical but there seems to be no urgency with this team anymore. In that last spell of prolonged possession we had in the 2nd half - we had at least 40 completed passes and there was no shot attempt. Where was the urgency to find the winner?

As for the subs - why none? If you have no urgency or personality to score, then lock the game down.

One last bit - this is the 2nd time Ake has been beaten with a guy right on his back. No way that score should of happened. I love the guy but he gets put off when he's close quarters with a player.

This team is weaker in every aspect, defence, midfield and attack. We pay £80 mill for one of the best center backs and play him left back, for £80 mill we should be buying the best left back around if that’s what we wanted, Nunez and X lovesick are a serious step down , only Dolu looks like a good signing. Just shows how great KDB is.
When was he one of the best CB's?

He didn't look very good as we tore him to shreds, the guy has talent and a lot of promise but he is a long way from being the best CB at City, he isn't a left back either, his time will come.

Worth pointing out that Walker who was unfortunately finished as a starter 12 months ago has the 2nd highest minutes played of any players in the PL this season.

City have 10 players with over 1000 minutes already, joint highest in the league with Villa. It’s unsustainable in terms of inevitable injuries.

Not long back from the game. Not much I can say apart from zero surprise we couldn’t hold on, again. Palace could even have snatched all three points at the end. At least United shipping half a dozen tomorrow will take us off the headlines.

Six points dropped over the last 3 home games, 8 in the last 5 PL games & 11 goals conceded points to something being radically wrong with the strongest defence I can ever remember us having.

What I've also noticed is how profligate we've become in front of goal, & just as I feared, we're struggling to make up for the goal contributions we've lost without Gundog, Mahrez & KDB.

Something has clearly gone wrong, whereby two seasons ago we'd have been walking away from this game maybe conceding one, but sticking 4, 5 or 6 past opposition like Palace at home. And that's when we had no strikers!

Now the odd mistake is costing us points. It can't be that every keeper in the PL has improved exponentially. How can we dominate matches the way we are, but still be walking away with lost points?

The fact Philips, Kovacic & Nunes don't even make our strongest 11 speaks volumes. I wasn't concerned about our squad quality diminishing, but that's because I didn't legislate for us losing Mahrez, & Kev being out for half a season.

Baldy & Txiki know what they have to do. At times like these, we need to return to the raw basics & rebuild our rhythm from scratch. Perhaps the World Club Cup is an opportunity to get away, clear our heads, & arrive back refocused on the task in hand, which we're making more difficult for ourselves by the week.

We just need 3/4 in & out adjustments to our squad & for Guardiola to formulate the next iteration of Pep-Ball, by increasing the midfield quality of our squad's gene pool.

It's worrying that we didn't have the game-changers we're used to on the bench as we've usually always had. Over to Pep & Txiki. I know they'll be pissed about this season so far & will have a plan.
