Crystal Palace PL (H) Post match thread

Absolutely dogshit defensively again.
We ain’t winning the league or the champions league with this defending.
It’s so predictable.
Waste chances, finally get our noses in front then play it about without any real attacking threat only to then start giving the ball away needlessly and then concede.
Soon as it hit 90 minutes Kyle gave it away, then Ederson, then Foden and then Bernardo (foul?)
Then the inevitable goal.
You can see it coming a mile off and now other teams can too.
Far too easy to score against with very little possession.
I heard we’re tired after last season.
Bollocks!
If that’s the case there’s fresh legs sitting on the bench.
Can’t exactly say it’s a downgrade on quality when we’re conceding the same type of goals every game.
Top 4 might be a struggle with this defence.
I get we’ve had injuries but that shouldn’t affect the way we defend, especially today we had a strong defence and a strong midfield.
We lack concentration, especially giving away possession so easily.
We were great till 2-0
We go in front and switch off.
It’s like it’s job done.
We don’t play for 90 minutes anymore.
Those who think we’ll get stronger towards the end of the season are in for a shock as we can’t even get stronger over 90 minutes of late.
Absolutely fuming with the lack of concentration and desire to win so far this season.
We getting worse not better.

A stat on the concourse on the way out showed we have 798 passes to Palace’s 300. Of those, we had 166 ‘attacking passes’ and Palace had 106. Sums it up. Gash, meandering borefest.

Gundogan brought control, decisiveness, leadership and goals. Today we had Lewis in his place who gave it away every time he tried something other than a 5 yard pass. Good goal, mind, but an anomaly than regular.

The team lacks leaders at the moment which is strange given we have Rodri, Walker and Dias in there. Rodri’s head goes too easily, Dias is too busy fighting to do the most basic defending and Walker is Walker. He’s lost his pace and the ability to do anything progressive. He stands out like a sore thumb, his drop off has been staggering. But we’ve got him for the foreseeable because he’s on a new contract. He should be nowhere near the captaincy either - football aside, he’s not the personality I’d want captaining my football team.

That game today was essentially watching 11 players stroll about the pitch doing fuck all to make things happen. First goal was nice, second goal was a few lucky deflections and other than that it was a team somehow void of any attacking confidence or intent and instead rolling the ball to one another at a snail’s pace. Put some fucking umph on a pass, speed things up a bit, make things happen, go forward, commit a defender, do something other than pass it backwards, sideways, run forward 5 yards then turn around and start the process again. Fucking painful.

All while you’ve got a manager sat there on the side not making substitutions other than John fucking Stones in the 94th minute! Yes the bench is light but it’s not as shit as what was out there today. Pep seems to pride himself on not making subs when the team isn’t winning because they need to get themselves out the mess, what’s today’s excuse while we were winning? There isn’t one. It’s just shit game management when you’re watching the team self implode on the pitch.

It’s shit. Has been for weeks, if not months, and needs sorting. Needs an injection of some sort of energy from somebody and Pep needs to grow some bollocks and go out of his comfort zone to make it happen. His tactic today was push an already-makeshift full back up to be a winger. If you’re going to do that then make use of Gomez who that role would’ve suited down to a tee!

Pissed off. Should be doing better and Palace gave us exactly what we deserved today.

Appreciate the candid response - no name calling, or suggesting I'm a rag/dipper.

Was I ecstatic with the window - no. That leads to the first part of the next sentence in a way, due to injuries (and form) I think Pep's just trying to find something that works with what he's got. Game management has been an issue - at 2-0 today I'd have pulled Alvarez simply to secure things (and Alvarez isn't my scapegoat).

Your next paragraph is nailed on. January and getting those 3 fit and firing is crucial.

The cwc (see what I did with the lower case ;)) I'd be using as warm weather work and seeing if we can tweak things to get some form of rhythm.

Onwards and upwards Blue

We'll definitely get back 'on it' at some point John. Whether it will be soon enough to make a big difference this season remains to be seen!

Up the Blues!

Not long back from the game. Not much I can say apart from zero surprise we couldn’t hold on, again. Palace could even have snatched all three points at the end. At least United shipping half a dozen tomorrow will take us off the headlines.
We have no god given right to win every game but the home draws we’ve had recently have all felt like defeats to me…………..

We all know he's shit on penalties, but idk what guys expect him to do for their first goal. He's the last person for blame there. It's a driven ball across the 6-yard box for a tap-in.
the issue is he never saves anything he has no right to. other keepers do

Making substitutions still wouldn't have erradicated any indivdiual errors in the team. Palace weren't battering us so no real need for personnel changes. There are obvious flaws in our overall mentality but it is still not beyond us in winning the league again as there were times last season where we didn't look likely in winning it nevermind the Treble.
We were desperate for fresh legs. You could see it coming a mile off. Cant believe he saw what was going on and did nothing. We were gassed after 70 mins and the inevitable happened. Criminal
