I've posted before on this but the club really should be looking after our supporters going over there. They're the ones who are still doing the equivalent of Torquay away for a mid-week cup game but paying a fortune for it now.

In the Stadium thread mention is made of a £20k model of the new campus, I would suggest to us more regular fans that the £20k could have been put to better use for the travelling guys.

Just had this from city:

Shame im going to Moscow.... Great gesture by the club though.

I am writing to you as one of a small group of supporters affected by UEFA’s decision in relation to the CSKA Moscow game to be played in Moscow on Tuesday 21 October 2014.

The Club is currently in dialogue with UEFA on the issue of non-refundable costs incurred by supporters. The information that you have provided on non-refundable travel, accommodation and visa costs has now been passed to UEFA, in order that they are fully informed on how the decision has affected you and other travelling supporters.

In the interest of your safety and security, we strongly recommend that you do not travel to Moscow for the first team or UEFA Youth League match earlier in the day. We have received reports of security issues involving fans from other away teams in Moscow.

Both you and supporters that you were due to travel with are invited to attend an exclusive event at the Etihad Stadium on the afternoon of Tuesday 21st October. Commencing at 4pm, the event will be attended by a former player and will include a hot/cold buffet, complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks with a live screening of the City v CSKA Moscow match, from 5pm.

As the lead supporter who provided the proof of travel to us, where you were due to travel with other supporters, please can you advise them of this invitation? If you can confirm the names of all those that will be attending the event no later than 12-noon on Friday 17 October, further information will follow. Please note this event is exclusive to those that provided proof of travel.

We hope you will be able to join us.

Chances are they'll reject the visa applications anyhow with the situation in Ukraine and EU sanctions.

I've got one pending right now.

Moscow is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world, despite the incredible amount of bureaucracy involved in getting there.

You'll need to get a visitor's 'voucher' from Russia, and I'd recommend using these guys (pay the minimum, you'll still get it within 24 hours - and maybe even several: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.russianvisaonline.net/russian-visa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.russianvisaonline.net/russian-visa.html</a>) and then you go send everything including your passport and filled in application form to one of the logistics firms that will take it to the Russian Consulate to stamp your passport with your visa. The same guys who help you get the visitor's visa can also process your entire visa application for you if you like, or you can make your own appointment and do it personally (probably not recommended)

As people have said, it's a hassle, and you need to start this ASAP.

And it's still nothing in comparison with getting a UK travel visa... Do you know what one needs to do to get it?

I have my own theories about this Russian visa business, but I'm not putting them into print.

if you go to any of the sites in the UK who process these for you everything will be explained - and as people who have done it already will tell you, it's a pain in the arse, but you must have one to get in.

*some countries do not require visas, but UK citizens do, and of course we didn't sign the simplification visa treaty like the majority of other European countries did with Russia, so off you go to the land of red tape...

;o)
