Easier said than done.
Under UEFA rules we currently have 18 Foreign players if Bravo is fit and we’re only allowed 17. And that’s not counting Mangala. Muric will become a homegrown player at the end of next season whereas Zinchenko won’t ever be classed as homegrown, as he misses the cut-off date by about 2 weeks. So I’d keep Muric and make him number 2 but get rid of Bravo & Zinchenko. Kompany has to go to make way for someone so that frees up 2 Foreign slots, which means we can bring in someone like Ghoulam as left-back and Ndombele as a replacement for Fernandinho. Or 2 other foreign players.
We’ve got the maximum 4 association trained players (Walker, Sterling, Stones & Delph) so if we want someone like Chilwell then one of those has to go. Personally I’d be looking at Delph as back-up for the DM position longer term but of the Association-trained four he’s probably the most likely to go if we bring in another English player.
I’m going to get pelters for this but I really think we’ve had the best out of Aguero and probably Otamendi as well. If push came to shove I’d sell those two this summer unless Sergio really steps up in the second half of the season, as long as we could get a good replacement for him and a young centre-back. We’ve got to start being ruthless and getting rid of anyone not delivering 100%.
But you’ve got to ask why the Academy hasn’t delivered as yet. There’s only Foden (I don’t think Diaz is good enough) and Sancho has gone. We’ve got to get a couple more players through in the next two seasons otherwise we may as well shut it down.
I kinda agree with the academy point but a lot of it is psychological. We just need one player to successfully become a first teamer and play every week to open the routes up.
