Current Squad - cut or keep?

Would you seriously go into 2019/20 season with Mendy as our sole left back on the basis of what we have seen in the last 18 months? There is a odd argument to do nothing now, but left back is also a concern.

We won the league with a record number of points with no Mendy. We will have him back in a few weeks. I don’t think it’s a permanent worry just a combination of form and current injuries.

It’s tempting to search for a quick fix and panic but I don’t see it that way. There is more to our current form than a couple of new signings. The norm is we win. That will return whether we sign another player or not.

These things happen. Patience needed.

Just my own take on things feel free to add your own...

Goalkeepers:
Ederson Keep Muric Keep but revert to no. 3 Bravo Cut quality backup to Eddy required

Defence:
Danilo Keep Walker Cut (or possibly retain as backup RB) Mendy Keep Kompany backup only LaPorte Keep Mangala Cut Otamendi Keep Stones Keep additional specialist full back required

Midfield:
De Bruyne Keep Delph Cut Fernandinho Keep Foden Keep Gundogan Cut D. Silva Keep B. Silva Keep Zinchenko Cut

Forwards:
Auguero Keep Brahim Diaz Cut (on the assumption hes going) Jesus Keep Mahrez backup only Sane Keep Sterling Keep

So for me that's Bravo Mangala, Delph Gundogan and Zinchenko def out with possibly Walker Kompany and Mahrez to go or with a much reduced role

plus at least 1 or 2 high quality replacements (don't ask me who they are though!)

So you seriously think we should get rid of Walker because he's had a couple of games where he isn't at his best...even though he's probably in need of a rest.
Kyle will be back to his best soon enough and I hope he's fit enough to play against the dippers as we need him for that game.
We need to add to the squad without getting rid of anybody who is a first choice when fully fit and in form.

If this isn't our line-up vs Arsenal on the 3rd of Feb then the window will have been a complete and utter failure.

ok seems that a lot of people are missing the point I was trying to make (obviously quite badly)

this is not a knee jerk lets get rid thread because of a few iffy performances - the point is that as a team we need to evolve and push on otherwise we stagnate just like Mancini's and Peller's teams before- because of things like FFP home grown etc some existing players will have to make way for any new faces brought in

the question is in order to accommodate these new players who stays and who goes?

When we were adrift of United in 2012 or Liverpool in 2014 I don’t remember knee jerk threads like this. It’s still mathematically possible, no one could have predicted we would have lost 3 out of the last 4 games with the run we were on since losing to United in the spring. It could happen to the dippers, a bigger gap could mean complacency creeping in from their part.

People have short memories by digging out Walker and Delph who had very strong seasons last year. The big thing this team has to over come is pressure and mentality, they didn’t have a team in close proximity last year chasing them and when it came to a pressure game in the champions league everyone failed miserably.

Retaining a league is difficult, I thought we had it in our locker to do it this year but the luck the dippers have had with Mahrez missing the penalty and various other results and our injury back log has hampered us so far.

We have a good team and sorting injury crisis with big players coming back should make us stronger in the second part of the season.
Walker and Delph have quite rightly been lambasted for recent no shows. Walker against CP was shocking to be honest and Delph at Leicester nearly as bad. I'm not for giving up on the title but from here on in we need to be near perfect in every game.

Plus Walker, not good enough and D.Silva who will be 33 next week. A huge amount to do in transfer market.

What a fucking load of bollocks...you are definitely not a blue....you should stick to posting on Rawk or Red cafe.
Fuck me I have read some shite on here but you are the king of the bullshit merchants.
It's a wonder you haven't been banned for wumming...
Walker is a bloody good player who suits our style of play...and Merlin is simply the best regardless of his age.

Thread is a joke. Barring the obvious issues at left back and defensive midfield there's nowt wrong with the squad. Gundogan and Delph etc. may move on but for no other reason but natural evolution of the squad, which is healthy. If it wasn't for foden then I bet Gundogan would be getting a new deal.

Last few games doesn’t give us much room to manoeuvre, Walker has been over played with Danilo being injured. Hopefully with Danilo being back it will give us fresh legs, he gets forward a lot more than Walker and has a better delivery.

Zinchenko scares the hell out of me with Liverpool on the horizon and putting Laporte out there didn’t work in the champions league games.

It's hard to say who to cut/sell but first of all selling Walker is a ridiculous idea. Mangala is the first that sticks out but for me if he's happy with 5th choice centre back I'm happy with him as 5th choice centre back for emergencies. Delph would be getting sold due to his performances at left back because as a midfielder I'd keep him. Zinchenko is a great prospect & a utility player I wouldn't have him going anywhere, even Gundogan I really don't rate Gundogan so as a starter no but coming off the bench? I'd be tempted to keep him. Bravo is a great 2nd choice keeper because he plays how we require a goalkeeper to play so for me it would mainly be about bringing people in.
