Dani Alves

Look at this:

Bravo, Stones, Dani Alves, Fernandinho, Sterling, Silva, Jesus.

An example of a typical City subs bench next season!! And I couldn't even get Gundogan in the squad on this occasion!!!

The big thing here mate is building a "long term" foundation to the squad. No matter how talented Alves is, he wont be here in 1-2years and doesnt answer the long term questions we have for the position. I could be wrong but I would hope Walker would be first choice because we would be signing him as our long term starting FB.
He will contribute significantly to that long term goal by instilling a positive attitude and mentality to those around him

Gundogan will be on the pitch.

Prime for prime Maicon was the one that got in the Brazil team.

I think they're almost replica players. Gung-ho attacking footballers that always have and always will be exposed from time to time.

I hope I do end up laughing at myself.

I disagree on the Madrid game. We did play on the counter but I think we were reasonably comfortable to Maicon went off then we just fell apart.

Alves was playing in a back 5 against Monaco, you'd expect him to look more solid than any of the other fullbacks mentioned.

He'll be a good option to rotate against certain teams definitely. Our first choice RB won't be him, or at least I'd hope not.

So you would expect him to look more solid than Walker in that system, v Monaco, but Walker costs 50 mil & Alves costs nothing ?

Not a bad deal then. And perhaps if he can handle Monaco, we can get a decent half hour out of him v Huddersfield or even Southampton.

Stones will play the majority of games. Pep didn't buy him to sit on the bench.

Yeah for me that's what he brings. That Tevez'esque soldier mentality. Was a really interesting pod even for me. I didn't realise quite how much Graham loves Dani. Always forget how much time he's spent with all those Pep/Barca players!

This guy's one of the most reliable journos in Italy too and he's backing up what I posted this morning about it being done.

EDIT:

Sam Lee's also now confirmed we've agreed a two year deal with him. Just waiting on Juve.

Its a shrewd signing, quite like Hunter, knows his onions about Spanish football and Barca and Pep in particular.

Sorry but that's just not true. Firstly, but less importantly Dani Alves has 100 Brazil caps to Maicon's 76. Alves played more games for Brazil than Maicon in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013-2017.

Maicon and Alves are also polar opposites. Maicon was all about pace, power, bombing down the line and pulling the ball back, Alves is all about his positioning, his intelligence, his passing, late runs, delivery...and he's still got the pace and power too. Not to mention he's a much better defender.

Maicon's time ahead of Alves in the Brazil team corresponded with Brazil's worst period in history, and having a manager who made decisions like Maicon over Alves is one of the main reason.

In 10 years time Alves will be considered one of the great Brazilian RB's along with Cafu, Jorginho and Carlos Alberto, one of the most successful club footballers in history, and a key part of arguably the greatest club side in history. Maicon will be forgotten outside of Milan.

They're a completely different calibre and style of player, and some bad Brazil manager's decisions doesn't change that.

Not arguing what I think our best 11, just highlighting the quality options we'll have in reserve on a game by game basis. I could have put anyone there - Aguero, Sanchez, KDB, Bernardo, Kompany, anyone - they will all be on the bench at some point.

The options are scary

?

I think most fullbacks would look better in a 5 than a 4. Not a reflection on Alves or Walker really.

Also Walker is 7 years younger than Alves. As well as being experienced in the league.

I'm not saying it isn't a decent signing on a free but then I'm someone who thought Maicon did well for us so clearly my expectations aren't as lofty (I'd say I'm more realistic) as 90% of our fan base.
