Apparently Alves kept calling Txiki about getting the contract signed and we were just really laid backed saying "we'll do it whenever you're back from your hols", "we've got a yes from you, so no rush" etc. He called Txiki a couple times more to get things sorted but just kept being met by voicemail.

PSG called and said "get here asap and we'll get the contact signed" and that's what he did.

No one would belive that story.

At the end of the day, foreign backup players aren't irreplaceable. If this was a HG player, it might be an issue, but it isn't.

All the talk of it effecting the Walker price seems farcical, as if Levy was going to sell us him cheaper because we already have a backup in place.

It's not just transfer fees though is it? Wages play just as important a role in these negotiations. Like I said, be realistic.

Alves doesn't have many years left , if PSG guaranteed him first team football while we were buying him as back up to Walker then it was obvious who he'd choose.

Levy knows we were in for Alves to compliment Walker. With Alves out of the picture and no RBs on our payroll, we have very few options besides going for Walker. Levy knows this and can take us to the cleaners just so we can put one player in the position.
