Agger announcement

Its basically a case of Liverpool aren't looking to actively sell, but if they get an insane offer he will go.

There's no demand from the player to leave (Agger has said in interviews he doesn't like watching football, his family are all Liverpool fans so he wouldn't push a move etc)

So therefore it makes no logic for Liverpool to sell for £18-20m. They'd have to find a replacement which would cost a big portion of that and it would be a massive ballache and risk for the reward of a few million left over. But if City bid £27m, they can sign a replacement and Allen for that amount.

He'd be worth every penny of £27m if he didn't miss a third of every season through injury.

Your last paragraph sums it up perfectly, although for a defender/team who's got no hope of playing champions league football for the next 10 years £27 million is too much, I don't give a shit what he's like playing in the Europa cup. If he wants to stay at Liverpool good luck to the loyal dimwit.

Re: Agger announcement

I'm in the fee agreed boat, makes no sense to leak that a fee has been agreed as it would drive up the price of any replacement. As previously said by others, personal terms most likely the sticking point.

Re: Agger announcement

Its so that when we sign him for an "undisclosed fee" the press can tell the dippers we paid £27m!

Re: Agger announcement

IMO we are still blighted by HRH's wealth, maybe everyone's perception is we pay over the top, maybe we need a transfer window without signing anyone to show we will not be taken for a ride. We have been very prudent so far in fact so bloody prudent we ain't spent a penny. Maybe we are going to give Sky a transfer deadline day to remember (again).

The £27million figure is bullshit. The fee for the player was agreed days ago. The negotiations that have been going on in the last 36 hours are between City and Agger about agreeing terms not City and Liverpool about agreeing a fee.
Source?

Agger Bid

It's all very hypocritical when all and sundries are saying man city ruining football paying over the odds for players, if I was marwood I would walk tell them to stuff it we shall look elsewhere best of luck with your joe Allen bid! Bet your your bottom dollar they would squealing after a few days,

Re: Agger announcement

All the news seems to be coming from the Liverpool end which makes me think that they are keen to sell Agger so that they can buy other players. Let them blink first.

What twitter 'ITK' said that?

Re: Agger Bid

Liverpool seemingly trying to play hardball. More quotes from the Times:

Rodgers claimed that Paris Saint- Germain’s recent signing of Thiago Silva has established the market rate for central defenders. “Silva has left AC Milan for PSG for £40 million,” he said. “He [Agger] is one of the leading players in European football, so it is going to be a big valuation. Every player has a price and top centre halves are at a premium.”

“Of course, you might lose a top player but if it benefits you going forward, and you can make two or three steps because of it, you may have to consider it. But we don’t want to sell him, so unless someone comes in with a ridiculous offer that makes you look at it and think you can benefit in one or two other areas, there is no way I want to lose one of my best players.

What backup for him do they have???

They rate Kelly and Coates highly.

I don't believe that. They are just right to hold out for the 27 mill

He's got two years left of his contract, hasn't put together a full season since he joined Liverpool and is one year less than Van Persie, who is better and rated at less than £27m.

£18m is about right for me.
