I think he played well against Burnley. My criticism on him is mainly when he plays LB. He's never comfortable with his left foot going forward and his "under-laps" never advances our attack. But he's always solid in defense. Dare I say that I'm even more comfortable with him at CB than with Mangala. He also shows signs of improvement each game I see him play. As long as he doesn't start whinging at playing behind Walker, Mendy and Delph, he'll be valuable to us for years to come. A bargain at 30M€ too.

Would love for Pep to play him at pivot.

A full back needs to dribble the defense, go to the line and cross the ball. Hes playing like when you use a CB as full back.

How often have you seen Delph "dribble...go to the line and cross the ball". Would you conclude that he has also been poor at full back? Or have you considered that it might be a specific instruction by Pep to keep the full backs narrow so that Sane and Sterling have the space to provide width to the team?

To be fair, Pep had to change the system when Mendy got injured. Mendy overlaps a lot and does the kind of thing some people seem to expect Delph to do.

But with Delph, when he moves forward, he typically plays a more interior role joining with Fernandinho in the centre of the park to allow Silva to find space higher up on the left.

Two problems:
1) *Boink*
2) Can't make clinical passes/shots on goal consistently

Danilo is very much a squad player - can fill in for many positions - but is a downgrade for whomever he fills in for.

His first touch is often bad (#1 above) and his passing/shooting isn't great or consistent (#2 above).

Still, he seems to read the game well enough, getting into proper defensive position - he has an engine - always running to where he thinks he's most needed - and, though I haven't reviewed game play of him extensively - it seems that he reads the game decently - moving to where he needs to be.

Definitely an asset to our present squad - but by no means irreplacable.

His *Boink* usually shows when he's played on the left side. He feels much comfortable with the ball in the right. I don't know how he'll fare playing the pivot but I think it's worth a shot given that the only other player that Pep plays there is Yaya.

Not his best showing at all. At times it was like he’d never seen a football before, much less been on a professional pitch.

Still, he has been fairly good this season so I’ll give him this one as a write-off.

He needs to show he is much better than that in his next appearance, though.

He did ok. He’s been in and out and played in different positions so i’ll give him the benefit of the doubt

We needed a utility man and by the looks of it, that’s what we got

So if Mendy plays will we be weaker defensively? Or will one of Silva or de Bruyne play deeper to help fernandihno?

Also I wonder if MAffeo comes back will Danilo be mostly as a CB. We would have stones and Danilo right side CB with Otamendi and Martinez as left CB. Kompany would be 5 choice due to injury record

Awful tonight, and I never slag any of ours off. Moaned at everyone in his vicinity but was useless at the back and passing.

Haha love the username. I'm not sure it's as simple as saying we'll be weaker defensively, it's just that we'll be more symmetrical (Mendy will play a similar game to Walker — rampaging up the flank looking to provide support and overlapping runs). Danilo is our second RB, I don't think that will change even if Maffeo proves he's capable of making the step up. Danilo is a useful squad player as he can provide cover at RB, LB, CDM and RCB (when we play 3 at the back). As much as I hate to admit it, Kompany will probably be our fourth choice CB after we sign one of Maguire, Evans or Martinez.

Just watch him on the Firminho goal.

get rid in the summer as he is neither good enough or has the right attitude to succeed at City.

Im actually angry at him as he makes no effort whatsoever to keep that ball out of our net.

Was pretty bad during the whole game but appaling for Firminos goal. Either lazy or just stupid.

are you serious? There's was no way he was getting to that ball

I agree. He should have been anticipating that. A top class defender would have done. He isn't one. Waste of money. Very average

Sell him in the summer.

Not really the utility man we’ve all hoped for. It’s obvious Pep doesn’t trust him enough to play DM, he played CB for parts of matches, nothing substantial. Below average at LB and offers nothing going forward there. Hasn’t even really shown at RB.

Much rather we bring back Maffeo in the summer.

Yes im deadly serious.

he stops, he doesn't anticipate whatsoever and he just stops.

he then makes a half arsed effort and despite his slowness he doesn't even try to make a lunge for the ball.

He is a defender and he was nowhere.

I’d be happy to take £15mill in the summer and replace him with Maffeo. Means we free up a squad space for someone else also.
